The United Way of Ellis County Pacesetter campaigns are underway. Some already have made a significant 
donation. Most recently, the Hays Area Children’s Center acquired 345 non-perishable food items through their School Age Summer Program to be donated to the pantry at Options Domestic Violence, a partner agency of the United Way of Ellis County.
Every year the United Way of Ellis County runs a large fund-raising campaign divided into two parts: a Pacesetter campaign and the Community and Business campaign.
The Pacesetter campaign is conducted by select businesses and is a way “set the bar” for the community by raising money and goods before fundraising efforts are opened up to the general public. The organizations doing a pacesetter this year are:

- Equity Bank
- Golden Belt Bank

- Hays Area Children’s Center
- Midwest Energy, Inc.
- Sunflower Bank
- Sunflower Electric Power Corporation
- Wal-Mart
The Community and Business Campaign, which comes later, is when fundraising is opened to all businesses and organizations. Once all donated funds are tallied, a CARE council will meet and allocate the funds to 16 different partner agencies.
This year, the Pacesetter campaign began June 27th and will end August 16th. The entire Community and Business Campaign kicks off in conjunction with the Hays Area Chamber of Commerce August Membership Luncheon on August 23rd. The United Way’s goal for 2013 is to raise $490,000.
