An unusual Sunday evening I-70 accident sent five people to the hospital.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 46 year old David E. Hagerman of McClure, Pennsylvania was driving a 2006 Volvo Semi-Truck westbound on I-70, a mile west of Oakley, when a tire separated from the vehicle and went across the median and struck a 2002 Chevy passenger car driven by Hector Maldonado of Hutchinson.

The Chevy spun out and came to rest in the south ditch.  Maldonado and passengers in the Chevy (Nancy Martinez age 37, Yancey Maldonado age 12, Erick Maldonado age 11, and Brisa Maldonado age 9) were transported to Logan County Hospital.  The truck driver was not injured.
