In a mid-July inspection of the Hays Ambassador Hotel by the Division of Food Safety and Lodging of the Kansas Department of Agriculture, inspectors found what  they said was evidence of bedbugs in three rooms of the hotel located near Interstate 70.

According to the report filed by the agency, in three rooms inspected at the hotel, there were living and dead bedbugs. The inspector reported dead bugs in two out of the three rooms and evidence of living bugs in two of the rooms, as well. Bedbug droppings also were found in one of the rooms, according to the inspection. A guest at the hotel reported finding what appeared to be a bedbug before the report was filed.

The hotel is the former Ramada and is located at 3603 Vine.

General Manager Gregg Wahlers said the hotel “is taking the steps that the Department of Agriculture has provided the hotel” and declined further comment. The hotel was required to close six rooms as a result of the inspection, and a follow-up inspection will be conducted once a professional pest control company treats the rooms.

A full report of the inspection can be found here.
