Emergency room at Topeka VA reopens

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The emergency room at Topeka’s Veterans Administration hospital is scheduled to reopen after being closed more than a year.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1U1dSpB ) that the emergency room at Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical reopens Tuesday morning. It’s been closed since Jan. 31, 2014, after the departure of several physicians left the emergency room critically understaffed.

Jim Gleisberg, a spokesman for the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System, said in a release Monday that the emergency department now meets staffing levels. He says the Veterans Administration is working with area hospitals and ambulance services to ensure veterans receive emergency care.
