Home runs carry Liberal to sweep of the Larks

Larks Logo 2Nick Brooks opposite field home run off of Allan Beer with one out in the 10th inning lifted the Liberal Bee Jays to 5-4 win over the Hays Larks Sunday night at Larks Park, giving them the four-game series sweep. Liberal’s third home run of the game helped them to their sixth straight win while handing the Larks their fourth straight loss.

Game Highlights

 

The Bee Jays (28-16, 22-14 JL) scored single runs in the second and third then added two in the fourth to go up 4-0. The Larks (21-21, 17-19 JL) rallied with two in the sixth and two in the seventh to tie.

Brooks Balisterri and Corky Welch drove in runs in the sixth then Connor Ross tied the game with a two-out double which scored Derek Dickerson and Derek Birginske to tie the game an inning later.

Beer (0-2) worked out of a jam in the ninth, stranding runners at second and third to keep the game tied.

Starter Nick Goza, making his 27th career start and 53rd career appearance in a Larks uniform, allowed four runs on 11 hits over seven innings.

The Larks, who will miss the NBC World Series for the first time since 2010 and just the second time since 1989, are back at home tonight for the first of two with the Puerto Rico Collegiate Baseball Club beginning at 7pm.
