HAYS–Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland is looking for volunteers who want to make a difference by building courage, confidence and character in girls, and inspiring them to lead the way.

Although girls and volunteers can join Girl Scouts year-round, fall is the busiest time of year for Girl Scout recruitment, coinciding with girls going back to school across the state. As new Girl Scout troops continue to form, 24 troop leaders are needed across northwest Kansas, a region that stretches from Great Bend to Hays to Goodland.

Every volunteer makes a difference. There are volunteer opportunities to fit any schedule, whether it’s one hour at an event, six weeks leading an after-school club, or one year inspiring an entire troop of girls. Girl Scout volunteers don’t need to be parents, have any history with the organization, or even be female. Girl Scout volunteers come from all walks of life; they are men, women, young professionals, retirees, college students, and more.

Additionally, 88 percent of Girl Scout volunteers say Girl Scouts lets them be active, with more than 90 percent crediting Girl Scouts for helping them learn or share something new.

Research also affirms the lifetime benefits of participating in Girl Scouting, as alumnae go on to become leaders in their communities and the world, thanks to the inspiration from local volunteers who guided them to find their own personal path to leadership.
