Ellis County Sheriff Ed Harbin warned residents on Thursday to be on the lookout for a new telephone scam.

He said residents have been contacted by someone purporting to be a deputy, warning that jury duty had been missed and asking for money.

Harbin said the call is a scam and asked anyone receiving such a call to hang up and then report it to law enforcement.
