2 hospitalized after train hits flatbed semi pulling hay

KHPKIOWA COUNTY – Two people were injured in an accident just before 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Kiowa County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2000 International Flatbed semi pulling hay was southbound on road 47 two miles west of U.S. 54 and Main in Haviland.

The driver Georki Quezada, 45, Tampa, FL., approached the railroad tracks and did not yield to and eastbound train.

The train struck the tractor on the rear axel wheel and the unit separated.

The semi truck came to rest on the south side of the tracks and the trailer came to rest on the north side of the tracks.

Quezada and a passenger Alibey Fumero, 41, Tampa, FL., were transported to the Kiowa County Hospital.

They were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
