The TMP boys and girls basketball teams split a doubleheader Tuesday night in Pratt against their former Mid-State Activities Association rivals the Greenbacks.
Girls: Pratt 35, TMP 26
The TMP Monarchs were held to a season-low 26 points and managed to shoot just 27 percent as they fall 35-26 to the Pratt Greenbacks Tuesday in Pratt.
Pratts opened the game on a 10-0 run and had built a 13-4 lead after the first quarter.
With just over one minute to play in the first half the Greenbacks had 12-point at 23-11 but the Monarchs closed the first half on a 9-4 run and trailed 23-17 at the break.
The second half was much the same, a low scoring affair that saw Pratt hold the Monarchs to just three points in the third quarter and led 29-20.
Early in the fourth quarter Pratt had built an 11-point lead at 31-20. TMP was able to close the deficit to five after a pair of Jillian Lowe field goals but Pratt made just enough free throws down the stretch to earn the 35-26 win.
Sasha Wasinger had a team-high seven points for the Monarchs and Lowe chipped in with six.
TMP falls to 2-3 on the season.
TMP girls highlights
Boys: TMP 42, Pratt 39
The TMP Monarchs ran their win streak to three games Tuesday with a 42-39 win over Pratt.
The Monarchs used a 7-2 first quarter lead and took a 14-8 lead into the second quarter.
After Pratt had cut the lead to just two the Monarchs answered with a 8-1 run with Carson Jacobs scoring three points and Ryan Karlin adding a three-pointer to give the Monarchs the 22-13 halftime lead.
Pratt used a 8-1 run in the third quarter that cut the deficit to five, 28-23.
In the fourth quarter 12 of the Monarchs 14 points came from the free throw line as they held off a late Pratt rally for the 42-39 win.
Lucas Lang scored eight of his team-high 13 points at the free throw line in the fourth quarter to lead all scorers. Pratt’s Kaden Evert hit two three pointers in the final minutes to keep the Greenbacks close and finished with 10 points.
The Monarchs improve to 3-2 with the win while Pratt drops to 2-3.
The Monarchs will host Oakley in the first home game of the season Friday.
