Late Tip In Lifts Fort Hays State Past Central Missouri

Karron McKenzie tipped in  a missed Matt Simmons putback attempt with 2.5 seconds to play to lift the Fort Hays State Tigers past Central Missouri 67-66. Boo Hunter missed on a deep 3-pointer at the horn.

The Tigers trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and were down seven at the half but used a 31-13 run to lead by seven with 8:50 to play. Central Missouri answered with a 15-5 run to lead by three.

The Tigers shot just 29-percent in the first half but 52-percent in the second half and finish at 41.5% for the game. FHSU hit just 4-of-18 3-point shots but were 19-22 from the free throw line.

Central shot just 36-percent in the second half and were 21-of-25 from the foul line. The Mules outrebounded FHSU 33-28.

Matt Simmons led four Tigers in double-figures with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Kendrick Morse added 13, Moses Dayee 12 and Omar McDade 10.

FHSU improves to 16-6 overall and 10-6 in the MIAA. The Mules have lost two straight and fall to 16-6 and 12-5 in the conference.
