
The Fort Hays State Tigers shot 55-percent in the second half including 4-of-10 from 3-point range and defeat the Pittsburg State Gorillas 66-60 Wednesday night at Gross Coliseum.
The Gorillas closed the first half on 10-2 run to pull within three at halftime and were within one when the Tigers went on a 17-4 run to build 14-point lead.
The Tigers shot only 12-of-24 from the free throw line to pull within four late.
Karron McKenzie led the Tigers with 18 points and six boards. Kendrick Morse added 11 points and Lance Russell 10. Matt Simmons grabbed 15 rebounds, two off his career-high.
Pitt State was led by JaVon McGee who tied a career-high with 23 points.
Fort Hays State improves to 17-8 and 11-8 in the MIAA. The Gorillas drop to 14-13 and 10-10 in the conference.
