Richard D. Tyrrell

Norton resident Richard D. Tyrrell passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Andbe Home in Norton, KS at the age of 78.

He was born September 6, 1936 in Lenora, KS to Roy & Mary (Vahling) Tyrrell. Richard was an over-the-road truck driver. His wife, Glenda, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his brothers, Ronald Tyrrell of Wakeeney, KS and Tom Tyrrell of Norton, KS; and sisters, Ruth Lucidi of Palm Harbor, FL and Roberta Lively of Phillipsburg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m. in the SS Philip & James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg, with Father Joseph Kieffer officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Mr. Tyrrell will lie in state from 5 – 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, and again on Sunday, July 26, from noon – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. A Rosary service will be held Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Richard Brungardt

WaKeeney resident Richard Brungardt was born August 26, 1918, near St. Peter, to John Francis and Margaret (Rohleder) Brungardt. He passed away at the age of 96, on July 21, 2015, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital, WaKeeney.

Richard served our country in the United States Navy during World War II, in the North Atlantic and South Pacific. On September 26, 1949, he was united in marriage to Anna Waldman at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage before Anna passed away on April 13, 2004. Richard spent most of his working life as a farmer. He was a proud member of the VFW, American Legion, and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include a son, Kervin and wife Vicki of Plymouth, Michigan; three grandchildren, Stephanie Foy of Charlotte, North Carolina, Dustin Brungardt of Canton, Michigan, and Shilo Brungardt of Jackson, Michigan; two great-grandchildren, Piper and Rhys Foy of Charlotte, North Carolina; and a sister, Catharine Weber of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son, Joseph; two brothers, Herbert and John; and two sisters, Bridget Linenberger and Mary Mader.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 27, 2015, at Christ the King Catholic Church, WaKeeney. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m with a parish vigil service immediately following at 7:00. Both will be at the funeral home in WaKeeney.

Fidelia Honas, age 86, of Ellis, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney. She was born October 29, 1928 in Victoria, Kansas to Ray and Agnes (Staab) Braun. She married Eddie Honas Jr. May 30, 1949 at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria. He preceded her in death October 25, 2007.

She was a homemaker enjoying family time especially with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis.

She is survived by two sons, Gerald Honas and wife Donna of Wichita and Harold Honas and wife Gwen of Ellis; two daughters, Twila Schmidt and husband John of Ellis and JoAnn Staab and husband Garry of Hays; two brothers, John Braun of Victoria and Albert Braun of Hays; two sisters, Theresa Kuhn of Victoria and Clara Bayer of Tacoma, WA; twelve grandchildren, Jeff Honas, Jennifer Coleman, Jill Windholz, Justin Honas, Ashley Schmidt, Ty Schmidt, Heidi Schmidt, Jaye Ditter, Molly Dreiling, Aaron Honas, Amber Honas and Monte Honas and great grandchildren, Kevin and Andrew Honas, Ethan, Addison and Ana Coleman, Luke Aaron, Brady and Chloe Schmidt, Dylan Brown, Ian, Levi and Sam Schmidt, Bentley, Easton and Carson Ditter, Jada Dreiling, Rylee and Kayla Honas, Joslyn and Bristol Honas and Camden Honas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lillian Braun and Irene Leiker and two brothers, Elmer and Charles Braun.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Friday, July 24, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday 5 PM – 8 PM and Friday 9 AM – 9:30 AM at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637. A combined rosary and vigil service will be 7 PM Thursday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Church or Masses.

Jack Kastle

Former Woodston, Cedar and Kirwin area resident Jack Kastle, age 95, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Golden Living Center in Wellington, Kansas.

He was born September 17, 1919 in Phillips County, KS, the son of Fred & Mary (Wickwar) Kastle. Jack was a farmer and stockman.

He is survived by two daughters, Shirley M. Theurer & husband, Richard, of Wellington and Arlene S. Duston & husband, Jim, of Glendale, Arizona; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lyle Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Bogart Cemetery, Phillips County, Kansas.

Mr. Kastle will lie in state from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Friday, July 24th, and again Saturday from 9 a.m. to service time in the funeral chapel, with the family receiving friends before the service from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Luella (Hey) Fose

WaKeeney resident Luella (Hey) Fose was born September 30, 1934 in Jetmore to Francis and Clara (Schwab) Hey. She passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015 at her home in WaKeeney. She was 80 years of age.

She graduated from Jetmore High School with the class of 1952. On December 28, 1955, Luella was united in marriage to Ralph Fose at the Methodist Church in Jetmore. They lived in Norwood, Colorado until March of 1956, when they came back to Jetmore, where they lived and worked until moving to WaKeeney in December of 1962. Luella cooked in restaurants for 13 years, then she went to work at Trego Memorial Hospital for 21 years, as a cook. Cooking was a passion for Luella. Even though she cooked for a living, Luella loved to cook for family and friends.

The holidays were a special time for her. She looked forward to decorating every room of her home. Luella was known for her always growing collection of salt and pepper shakers. She loved to play bingo, or sit down to a good challenge in a jigsaw puzzle or word search game. Luella was also known to brag about her grandkids, as she was especially proud of each of them. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include three sons, John and wife Jean of WaKeeney, Jay and wife Carey of WaKeeney, and Joel and wife Lisa of Ellis; three daughters, Lorna and husband Joe Nutt of Mustang, Oklahoma, Lana Dinkel and Lisa Fose, both of Ellis; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; one brother, Junior Hey and wife Jenny of Jetmore; and four sisters, Gerry Stuckey, Loretta Hiller, Mary and husband Bill Pitts, and Jean and husband Larry Stegman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; son, Jerry; Granddaughter, Jena Scheffe; son-in-law, Mike Dinkel; one brother; and three sisters.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Simon P. Roth Jr.

Simon P. Roth Jr., 88, attorney at law, passed away July 17, 2015 after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Simon was born on October 25, 1926 in Hays, Kansas, one of four children of Simon and Theckla (Rupp) Roth. He married Rita Wasinger on September 1, 1949. Simon and Rita have four children, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Simon graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy, Fort Hays State University and Washburn University Law School. He served in the US Navy’s Pacific Fleet during WWII. His legal career includes prior service as a member of the Kansas Commission on Civil Rights, a member of the Kansas Adult Authority, County Attorney and County Counselor for Ellis County, and Judge of the Ellis County Probate and Juvenile Court. He also served on the Thomas More Prep Advisory Board and the Hays Library Board.

Simon was preceded in death by his wife, Rita in 2006, a son, Simon Roth III in 2003, his parents, his brother, Raymond Roth and his two sisters, Dorothy Soderblom and Ruth Reverman.

He is survived by daughters, Deborah Kane and husband Bill of Grand Junction, CO, Denise McNickle and husband Andy of Wichita, KS; a son, Douglas Roth and wife Brenda of Wichita, KS as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Private family services will be held with burial in St. Joseph cemetery in Hays, Kansas.

Kirk Arlen Rufenacht

Kirk Arlen Rufenacht, age 74, passed away July 20, 2015 at the Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom, Kansas. He was born on November 10, 1940 in Ransom the son of Frank and Helen Neyer Rufenacht.

He was a retired farmer. On May 26, 1962 he married Doris Jane Leone in Coalgate, Oklahoma. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Alex Rufenacht (Cindy) of Sioux Center, Iowa; two daughters, Gina Solomon of Mesa, Arizona and Lucinda Roths (Kenny) of Salina, Kansas, one sister, Kolleen Overman (Charles) of Pearl City, Hawaii; six grandchildren, Benjamin Amerine, Misty Armijo, Madison, Makenna, and Meaghan Roths, and Shayla Rufenacht; and two great grandchildren, Olivia and Zoey.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015, 10:00 A.M. at the VFW Hall, Ransom, Kansas. Friends are invited to follow the family to Pa’s Pond at Cedar Bluff Reservoir to scatter Kirk’s ashes.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Cedar Bluff State Park- Pa’s Pond and the Kid’s Fishing Derby.

Funeral services for lifelong Goodland, Kansas, resident Patricia Louise Knudson Perrey, 94, will be held Tuesday, July 28, at 2:00 PM MT at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Goodland, Kansas.

Interment will be at Goodland Cemetery.

Edna M. Uppendahl, age 95, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on October 21, 1919 in Shields, Kansas, the daughter of George H. And Augusta Strickert Uppendahl.

A graduate of Scott Community High School, she attended Kansas State University. She worked as a chemist for the Great Lakes Pipeline Company in Kansas City, Missouri for 8 years years. She then moved to San Francisco, California in 1949 and worked for the California Teachers Association. In 1952 she moved back to Scott City, Kansas to farm with her brother George.

She was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas and was a past Girl Scout Leader.

Survivors include her Two Nephews – Kenneth Pohlmann of Miami, Florida and James Pohlmann of Bloomington, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, One Brother and One Sister.

Graveside Services will be held in the Dighton Cemetery in Dighton, Kansas at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015 with the Rev. Warren Prochnow presiding.

Memorials amy be given to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church or the Scott County Library % Price & Sons Funeral Home.

Interment will be in the Dighton Cemetery in Dighton, Kansas.

Barbara Ann (Mackey) Adams, of Loogootee, Indiana, went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 18, 2015.

She was born December 21, 1940, to Malcolm and Ellen (Jones) Mackey in Rensselaer, IN. She graduated from Fremont-Ross High School, Fremont, OH. She was a homemaker and artist who doted on her grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives: Paul and Cheryl Adams, Hays, KS, Bryan and Julinda Adams, Loogootee, IN, and Mike and Victoria Adams, Plainfield, IL; nine grandchildren, David Adams, Liberal, KS, Megan Adams, New Orleans, LA, Eric and Erin Adams, Hays, KS, Nathan, Arianna and Zane Adams, Plainfield, IL, and Ross and Alex Adams of Loogootee, IN; two great-grandchildren, Felicity and Eva Adams of Liberal, KS; two brothers and their wives, Lewis and Shirley Mackey, Winona Lake, IN, and Robert and Linda Mackey, Whitehouse, OH; and her sister-in-law, Carolee Mackey, Vermilion, OH. She was preceded in death by a brother, Malcolm “Jay” Mackey.
