Walter R. Younger

MUNJOR, Kan. – Walter R. Younger, age 89, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society of Ellis.

He was born August 7, 1925 at rural Trego County to Michael and Seraphina (Bieker) Younger. He married Martina (Korbe) on October 19, 1948 in Munjor, Kansas. This past Sunday was their 66th wedding anniversary.

He was a farmer/rancher in the Ellis area and was the owner of Younger Plumbing and Electric. He retired in 2000. He spent 21 years as a Custom Harvester and with a crew of his brothers and brothers-in-law traveling from Oklahoma to Montana. As a youngster he played the guitar and he was the lead guitarist for the Younger Brother’s Polka Band until the late 1990s. He also played banjo and trumpet. He was a WWII Army veteran and took his training as an Electrician from the Army and trained his two brothers also. He was a member of the Ellis V.F.W. Post No. 9139, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and has lived in the house he built in Munjor since 1950.

Survivors include his wife, Martina Younger, of the home; one son, Neal Younger and wife, Carolyn, Munjor, KS; one daughter, Gladys Powell and husband, Jamie, Beloit, KS; one brother, Donald Younger and wife, Rita, Ellis, KS; one sister, Lillian Reynolds and husband, Richard, Lake of the Ozark, MO; six grandchildren, Mike Gross, Jeremy Zimmerman, Amy Swanson (Virgel), Erin Garst (Justin), Maeghan Powell and fiancé, Dustin Linder, Brianna Younger and companion, McKinley Ross; seven great grandchildren, McKenzie Gross, Taylor and Merritt Swanson, Clayton and Trinity Garst, Bella Bailey and Lennon Ross.

He was preceded by his parents; one daughter, Gloria Zimmerman-Gross; one grandson, Cody Younger; four brothers, John, Bill, Bob and Michael Younger Jr.; three sisters, Edna Waldschmidt-Henderson, Viola Molleker-Sullivan, Evelyn Rohr-Stramel.

Funeral services are at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 24, 2014, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Munjor, Kansas. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Munjor, Kansas and military honors by the Hays V.F.W. Post No. 9076.

Vigil service is at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays and from 9:30 to 10:00 A.M. Friday, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Munjor, Kansas.

Warren Leon Burbach

Warren Leon Burbach, age 86, of WaKeeney, passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 at his residence. He was born May 17, 1928, in Hays, to Pete and Minnie (Tilton) Burbach.

Warren attended and graduated from Collyer High School. On August 6, 1950, he was united in marriage to Darlene Winters. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage together, until her death on June 19, 2010.

Warren was a farmer and rancher, most of his life, having worked on the family farm south of Collyer. Warren was known for his talent as a woodworker and carpenter. He built and/or remodeled several homes.

Survivors include two sons, Tim, of WaKeeney, and Rick and wife Laurita of Collyer; a daughter, Sandra Burbach of Russell; five grandchildren Shawn Burbach, Trent Burbach, Jeremiah Burbach, Rhea Mader, and Darsha Whorton; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister, Nadine Kroeger.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.  Inurnment will be in the Union Cemetery, Collyer.

There will be no visitation as cremation was chosen.

Warren L. Burbach, of WaKeeney, passed away, Monday, October 20, 2014, at his home.

Bertha S. Fogle

Bertha S. Fogle, 87, Hays, died Sunday, October 19, 2014, at the Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas.

She was born October 30, 1926, in Hays the daughter of Frank and Martha (Ploutz) Fogle. She worked on the farm for much of her life, and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and raising chickens, ducks, geese and guineas. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Sessin of Hays and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street. Burial will be in the Mt. Allen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time on Friday at the funeral home.

Buster Winn

Phillipsburg resident Buster Winn passed away Thurs., Oct. 16, 2014, at his home in Phillipsburg at the age of 74.

He was born Feb. 13, 1940 in Laird, CO to Lloyd C. & Vera V. (Little) Winn. His wife, Anita, preceded him in death on March 2, 2010.

Survivors include his daughter, Natalie Flin of Everett, WA; stepdaughter, Gretchen Swift of Phoenix, AZ; stepsons, Bret Derr of Phillipsburg and Neil Derr of Castle Rock, CO; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharon Baumgartner of Brighton, CO and brother, Leroy Winn of Brighton, CO.

Cremation was chosen.  A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.

Friends may sign the book Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Aloysius J. Rohr

Aloysius J. Rohr, age 86, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at his home in Lincoln.

He was born on August 19, 1928, in Liebenthal, Kansas, to Jacob L. and Francis (Herman) Rohr.
Aloysius spent most of his life in the WaKeeney area. On April 2, 1951, he was united in marriage to Wilma Jean Bell. They also spent time as a couple in Pratt and Hutchinson, until Wilma’s death on May 7, 2012. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage together. Aloysius then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be nearer to family.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Aloysius was known for his talent as a woodworker. He loved to go on fishing trips with his grandchildren, and enjoyed any time he had with family. He could also occasionally be found watching car races on television, cheering on his favorite driver.

Aloysius will be dearly missed by many.

Survivors include one son, Jerry J. of Lake Ritchie, Florida; one daughter, Alice J. Sorensen of Lincoln, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother Celestine of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and infant son, Steven A.; two sons Mark, G. and Allen W.; three brothers, Matt, Alvin, and Leonard; and two sisters, Irene Baalman and Francie Carlman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church of WaKeeney with Father Charles Steier as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:0 0 a.m. to noon, Wednesday at the funeral home.

Judy Bennett

Phillipsburg resident Judy Bennett passed away Oct. 15, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 68.

She was born April 8, 1946 in Hays, KS, the daughter of Leonard & Regina (Dreiling) Braun. She owned and operated her own sewing and monogramming business, A Bennett Creation, in Phillipsburg.

Her husband, Warren, preceded her in death on March 8, 2014.

Survivors include her brothers, Donald Braun of Stockton, KS and LeRoy Braun of Phillipsburg, KS, and her sister, Barbara Zimmerman of Hays, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Oct. 20, at 10:00 a.m. in the SS Philip & James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg, with Father George Chalbhagam officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Visitation will be Sat. and Sun. from noon – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. A Vigil service will be held Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Harding Guy Runnion

Long Island resident Harding Guy Runnion passed away Tues., Oct. 14, 2014, at his home in Long Island at the age of 94.

He was born in Phillips County, KS to Jay and Nellie (McFall) Runnion on August 21, 1920. Harding worked as an over-the-road truck driver.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Violet and Luella, and two sons, Jay and Ronald.

He is survived by three daughters, Winona “Jayne” Jarvis of Long Island, KS; Barbara Hotsko of Salinas, CA; and Karen Klein of Manhattan, KS; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen. 

A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 20, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with military honors by the Roy C. Goodrich American Legion Post #304 of Long Island.

Friends may sign the book on Monday from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Susan Frances (Shrader) Green

HAYS, Kan. – Susan Frances (Shrader) Green, age 64, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City.

She was born January 19, 1950, in Anaheim, California, to Douglas Roy and Frances Hazel (Freeman) Shrader.

She was a legal secretary for many years. She attended high school in Vancouver, Washington and attended college in the Portland, Oregon and Vancouver area. She lived in Sacramento, California and Wichita before moving to Hays in 1995.

Survivors include her twin sons, Alex Green and Matthew Green, both of Hays, KS; son, Scott Green of Hays, KS; one daughter, Courtney Green, Hays, KS; her former husband, Keith Green, Hays, KS; two brothers, Mike Shrader and wife, Shirley, Austin TX; Steve Shrader and wife, Cheri, Anchorage, AK; four nieces, Tanya Fandrich and husband, Ken, Oregon City, Oregon; Tamara Blair and husband, Todd, Issaquah, WA; Erika Harvey and husband, Marc, Matthews, NC and Vicki Shrader-Brister and husband, Chuck, Austin, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother, Patrick Shrader.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 18, 2014, at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. Saturday, at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
