Munjor, Kansas – Oliva (Lang) Pfannenstiel, age 97, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays, Kansas.
She was born March 5, 1916, on the family farm East of Hays, Kansas, to Anthony and Catherine “Katie” (Wiesner) Lang. She married Edward Pfannenstiel on May 21,1934, at Munjor, Kansas. He died March 3, 1982.
She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Victoria High School. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and St. Francis Christian Mothers, both of Munjor, Kansas. She enjoyed baking, needle work and her family.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon Pfannenstiel, Verlin Pfannenstiel and wife, Elaine, Both of Munjor, KS; six daughters, Darlene Dinges and husband, Robert, Dalton, GA; Jeanette Tauscher and husband, Charles, Juanita Stecklein and husband, Alan, both of Hays, KS; Judy Pfannenstiel-Waxse and husband, Dave, Overland Park, KS; Mary Pfannenstiel-Miller and husband, Tim, Lincoln, NE; Joyce Allen and husband, Gene, Atchison, KS: three brothers, Clarence Lang and wife, Melinda, George Lang and wife, Lenora, Ralph Lang and wife, Bertha, all of Hays, KS; one sister, Leona Walters, Hays, KS; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Lang, Catherine, KS; Rita Legleiter LaCrosse, KS; 27 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and one step great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one infant daughter, Mary Pfannenstiel; one daughter-in-law, Anna Mae Pfannenstiel, and two brothers, Anthony “Tony” Lang and Isadore Lang.
Services are at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Munjor, Kansas. Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Munjor, Kansas.
A St. Francis Christian Mothers and Hays Daughters of Isabella rosary is at 6:30 P.M. Friday, and a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Friday, at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.

Phillipsburg resident, Alfred “Bud” Wallace, passed away Tues., April 23, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 87. He was born in Westboro, MO on August 3, 1925, the son of George Washington & Iva Marie (Starling) Wallace. Bud owned & operated a service station in Agra, KS for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Marguerite, of the home; daughters Connie Hanke of Phillipsburg and Peggy Toler of Colorado Springs, CO; his brother, Norman Wallace of Virginia; his sister, Marsha Smith of Goodland, KS; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Shelly Klingensmith officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with military honors by the U. S. Navy.

Agra resident, Charles A. “Chuck” Mott, passed away Wed., April 24, 2013 at his home in Agra, KS at the age of 76. He was born July 7, 1936 in Willimantic, Connecticut to Arthur H. & Bernice (Ives) Mott, Jr. Chuck was an Equipment Operator for the United States Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of the home; sons, Robert and Chaz Mott, both of Connecticut; daughters, Annette Duffy of Carbondale, KS and Lisa Bona of LA Mesa, CA; nine grandchildren; brothers, Paul and Ed Mott and sisters, Mary Deptula and Lois Ereshena, all of Connecticut and sister, Joan Belanger of Nevada.
Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lorna Paulus officiating. Inurnment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington, with military honors by the U. S. Navy.

Costa Mesa, CA resident, Aleta R. Ducharm, passed away Sat., April 20, at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, KS at the age of 76. She was born Sept. 1, 1936 in Gretna, Kansas to Paul & Crystal (Peterson) Gower. Aleta was a homemaker and mother.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred, of Costa Mesa; two sons, Jimmy Ducharm of Agra, KS and Kerry Ducharm of Costa Mesa, CA; her daughter, Gaylene Ducharm of Mission Viejo, CA; and seven grandchildren.

Walter E. Epperson, 94, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013.
He was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Corder, Mo., to Hugh N. and Hattie Mae (Miller) Epperson.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing and volunteering with the Lutheran Braille Workers.
Survivors include a son, Paul Epperson and wife, Julie; three daughters, Elizabeth Wade and husband, Don, Lynne Pullman and husband, Fred, and Judy Livingston and husband, Ray; his “adopted daughter,” Amy Moore and husband, Steve; a brother, Harold Epperson; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father, Roscoe D. Pearce; his wife, Gertrude, in 2009; three sisters, Florence Crabtree, Ella (Dale) Williamson and Madora (William Pearce & Harold) Stonger; two brothers, Alfred (Edith) Epperson and Hugh (Edna and Tina) Epperson; and a sister-in-law, Audrey Epperson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church; entombment to follow in Lakeview Mausoleum.

Logan resident, Harold McCue, passed away April 18 at his home in Logan at the age of 87. He was born Aug. 26, 1925 in Rooks County, KS the son of David & Rosa (LeSage) McCue. He was a farmer.

Marcellus “Celly” Schmeidler
Stone Mountain, Georgia – Marcellus ‘Celly” Schmeidler, age 95, former Hays, Kansas, resident died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at his home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
He was born November 4, 1917, in Catherine, Kansas, to Emil and Catherine, (Dinkel) Schmeidler.
He was a veteran of the U S Army and served during WWII. He farmed, worked in the oil fields, and then later worked and retired from the building and grounds department at the University of Minnesota. He moved back to Hays, Kansas, in 1990, and then moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia in December of 2011. He was a member of the Hays American Legion.
Survivors include one sister, Isabella Staab; Sister in law Margerie Schmeidler; and step sister Juanita Hoffman; his care givers, Beverly Brungardt , Mona Fox, Katie Crippen, Joy Edwards, and Jarod Clark and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Joseph, Isadore, Robert, Albert and Elmer Schmeidler; one sister, Mary Ann Lang; and one infant brother, Marcellus Schmeidler and three step sisters Generose Burgman, Lenore Billinger, and Mary Ann Leiker.

She was born April 23, 1929, in Loretta, Kansas, to John E. and Catherine (Schoenfeld) Basgall. She married John T. Schuckman on June 14, 1951, in LaCrosse, Kansas. He died December 26, 2003.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gorham, Kansas. She enjoyed baking, her flower gardens, family and her grandchildren. She lived her married years in Gorham, Kansas and then her later years in Hays, Kansas.

She was born December 1, 1939 in Norton County, KS the daughter of Merle & Elsie (Douk) Shearer. She worked at Coomes Trucking in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
She married Lyman O. Coomes on September 4, 1960 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1988. She then married Donald Lebeda on December 31, 1994 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son Rodney; daughter, Shayla & three grandchildren, Lindsay & Lucas Matal & Kelsey Altenbern.

Phillipsburg resident, Harold J. Kaiser, passed away Friday, March 22, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 93. He was born in Phillips County on Feb. 9, 1920 to Herman & Eva (Fink) Kaiser.
His wife, Lucinda, and grandson, Craig Michael Spicer, preceded him in death.

Jeanette Aileen (Larson) Oliphant, 96, Leawood, KS died Sunday March 24, 2013 in Leawood, KS.
She was born November 28, 1916 in Claflin, KS to Walter L. and Emma (Schreiner) Larson.
She was a lifelong Claflin resident and a 1934 graduate of Claflin High School.
She married Charles E. Oliphant on March 9, 1950 in Salina, KS. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1973.
Jeanette worked as a cashier for the Kansas Power Company in Great Bend, a bookkeeper and payroll clerk for the Claflin Flour Mills and attended air traffic controller school during WW II.
She was a secretary in the Education Department at Barton County Community College from 1975-1986 and touched many lives teaching piano lessons for 46 years in Claflin.
She is survived by two daughters, Charlotte Walker (Don Rosemann), Shawnee KS. and Debbie Ermoian (Kyle) Hays, KS. Two granddaughters, Jessica Baum McGee (Matt) Marietta, GA. and Lindsey Walker Rosemann (Scott) Prairie Village KS. Five grandsons, Jacob Baum, Portland, OR. Lucas Walker, Lawrence, KS. Joshua Baum Tacoma, WA. Devin Ermoian, Hays, KS, Taylor Ermoian, Hesston, KS. Two great granddaughters and four great grandsons.
She was a longtime member of the Claflin United Methodist Church, Celebration Community Church in Hays, KS and attended Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Claflin, and a past member of the Barton County Piano Teachers League.
She loved music and playing the piano. She was an avid reader of Christian literature. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and serving and celebrating others, especially her grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1pm Wednesday March 27th at Claflin United Methodist Church with visitation between 12-1pm. Burial at the Claflin Cemetery following. Reverend Claudia Ricks Hubbard and Pastor Kyle Ermoian officiating.

Hays, Kansas – Francis J. “Frank” Hoffman, age 84, died Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays, Kansas.
He was born March 29, 1928, in Emmeram, Kansas, to Michael and Clara (Nemecheck) Dinkel Hoffman. He married Mary Ann (Geist) on April 26, 1955, in Victoria, Kansas. She died October 19, 2007.
He was a veteran of the U S Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a construction worker, heavy equipment operator and carpenter. He worked for Pierce-Schippers Construction, Windholz Construction and retired from Allied Asphalt in 1990. He owned Hoffman’s Saw Sharpening in Victoria for over 30 years. He was member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post 1751, both of Victoria, Kansas. He moved to Hays from Victoria in 2011.
