Anna Van Loenen

Prairie View resident, Anna Van Loenen, passed away Sunday, March 10, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 86.  She was born March 4, 1927 in Phillips County, KS to Henry & Alie (Tien) Pakkebier.

 

Her husband, Buford, daughter, Amy, and son, Buford, Jr. preceded her in death.

 

Survivors include her son, Rodger, of Prairie View; daughters, Beverly Schemper of Prairie View and Linda Levene of Tucson, AZ; brothers, Tenis Pakkebier of Prairie View and Marvin Pakkebier of LaCrosse, KS; one sister, Sylvia Kats of Norton, KS; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Prairie View Reformed Church, Prairie View, with Pastor Ian Van Leeuwen officiating.  Burial will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 – 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with the family receiving friends Wed. evening from

7 – 8 p.m.

Delbert A. “Del” Eberle

   Hays, Kansas – Delbert A. “Del” Eberle, age 71, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Hays Medical Center Hays, Kansas.

    He was born August 2, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas, to Anton “Tony” and Rosa Marie (Weigel) Eberle.  He married Rhonda (Sanders) on October 23, 1976, in Greensburg, Kansas.

   He graduated from Kapaun High School, Wichita, Kansas, in 1959.  He served honorably in the United States Navy.  Delbert worked at Midwest Energy Inc. in Hays, Kansas, for 35 years and retired in 2004. He moved to Hays, Kansas, in 1983 and enjoyed fishing, baseball and watching NASCAR, his family and grandson.

   Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Eberle, of the home; two sons, Jason Eberle, Kansas City, KS; Matt Eberle, Hays, KS; one daughter, Toni Caraway and husband, Nesby, Topeka, KS; two sisters, LaVeta Popovich, St. Louis, MO; Delila Boyd and husband, Bobbie, Declo, ID; one grandson, Saylor Caraway; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ron and Dorothy Sanders, Medicine Lodge, KS.

   He was preceded in death by his parents.

   Services are 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at  Cline’s Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd, Hays, Kansas  67601.   Burial in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, Kansas, with military honors by the Hays V.F.W. Post No. 9076.

Bernice Singleton - Picture

Bernice Ann Singleton, 75, Hays, Kansas, passed away on February 21, 2013, in McAllen, TX. She was born on October 29, 1937 in Lyons, Kansas, to Wesley and Mildred (Miller) Bernstorf. Bernice married Kenneth Singleton on January 24, 1959 at Salem United Methodist Church near Bushton, KS.

Bernice grew up on the family farm west of Chase, KS. She attended Banner School in Rice County through 8th grade and graduated from Chase High School in 1955. After high school she attended McPherson College and graduated with a Bachelors of Business and Education with a minor in English in 1959. She later earned a Master’s in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, OK. She was a homemaker while her children were young and then taught business classes at Lakin High School in Lakin, KS for 26 years until her retirement in 1996.

Kenneth and Bernice were happily married for 54 years. In the earlier years of marriage, they resided in Lyons, Stockton, and Radium, KS. They lived in Lakin, KS from 1966 until 2001 when they moved to Hays, KS. Bernice was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, holidays, RVing, crafts, and wintering in Texas upon retirement.

Bernice is survived by her husband, Kenneth Singleton, of the home; one son, Scott Singleton and wife, Nancy, Wichita, KS and two daughters, Susan High and husband, Bob, Wichita, KS; Lisa Reed and husband Tommy, Hays, KS; one sister Adele Pulliam and husband, Phil, Wichita, KS, one granddaughter, Alyssa Reed, Hays; two step-granddaughters, Jacinta (Josh) Messerole and Kimberly Reed, Houston Texas, and one step great granddaughter, Journey Messerole, Houston Texas; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents and one infant grandson, Marcus Reed.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Westview Church, 3000 West 41st St., Hays, Kansas. A private inurnment will be held at a later date. Lunch will be served at 11:30 A.M. at Westview Church prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the Church.

Fridolin B. “Fritz” Dreiling

Victoria, Kansas – Fridolin B. ‘Fritz” Dreiling age 93, died Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Hays Good Samaritan Center.

He was born November 27, 1919, in Victoria, KS, to Balthasar P. and Elizabeth (Graf) Dreiling.
He married Edna (Schulte) on June 2, 1947, in Victoria, KS.
He was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII and served with the Military Police Platoon, 71st Infantry Division. He worked for Gagelman Motor Company in Hays, KS, for 10 years and worked 21 years for the City of Victoria. He retired in 1984, as an Water Superintendent for the City of Victoria.

He was a former member of the Victoria Fire Dept., past board member of the Victoria Housing Board and Victoria Township Board. He was a grave sexton for the St. Fidelis Cemetery for a number of years. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria Knights of Columbus, a lifetime member of the Victoria V.F.W. Post No. 1751, a past commander and past club room manager.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Dreiling, of the home; three sons, Rene Dreiling and wife, Marilyn “Mimi”, Papillion, NE; Joel Dreiling and wife, Melinda, Hays, KS; John Dreiling, Tulsa, OK; two daughters, Rose Rifford, Hays, KS; Mary Jones and husband, Carroll, Lexington, KY; two brothers, Vince Dreiling and wife, Ellen, Hays, KS; Francis P. Nicholas Korbe Sr., age 85, died Monday, February 18, 2013, at the Locust Grove Village Nursing Home, LaCrosse, Kansas.

He was born May 6, 1927, in Antonino, Kansas, to Fidelis and Katherine (Unrein) Korbe. He married Martha Marie (Portschy) on May 14, 1951, in Hays, Kansas.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He owned and operated Nick Korbe Cable Tools for many years and retired in 1982. After his retirement he and his wife started Nick Korbe Wood Crafts. He enjoyed his wood shop, fishing, gardening, going to the casino, and loved his family and his grandchildren. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Korbe, of the home; one son, Nicholas Korbe Jr. and wife, Connie, Hays, KS; two daughters, Jan Brungardt and husband, Gene, Victoria, KS; Linda Brazda and husband, Dennis, Hays, KS; one half brother, John Hoff Jr. and wife, Dolly, Russell, KS; one sister, Esther Rohleder, Lincoln, NE; one half sister, Charlotte Wilkinson and husband, Dave, Rose Hill, KS; two sister-in-laws, Clara Korbe and Jean Berger, both of Hays, Kansas; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, (step grandchildren and step great grandchildren).

Phillipsburg resident, David D. Jerby, passed away Wed., Feb. 13, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 71.

He was born Jan. 17, 1942 in Phillips County, the son of Alfred Franklin & Sophronia Muriel (Rowland) Jerby. David had retired from Tamko as a Quality Assurance Leadman.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda, of the home; sons, Ricky, Timothy, and David W. Jerby, all of Phillipsburg and son, Gary Jerby of Wichita, KS; daughter, Lisa Hirst of Enid, OK; sister, Gertrude Redinger of Phillipsburg; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Phillipsburg, Kansas resident, Zachary Paul Albert, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at his home at the age of 19.

Zachary was born March 18, 1993 in Aurora, Colorado the son of Paul Albert & Heidi (Denning) Fischer. He graduated from Hays High in Hays, KS in 2011.

Survivors include his mother, Heidi Fischer of Phillipsburg; father, Paul Albert of Parker, CO; sister, Nichole Ralston of Amarillo, TX; maternal grandparents, Cheri & Chris Chesney of Raleigh, NC; paternal grandmother, Nadine Albert of Plainville, KS; maternal great grandparents, LaVona Montgomery of Las Vegas, NV and Robert & Judy Chesney of Woodston, KS; and many aunts & uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 in the Plainville Christian Church, Plainville, KS with LeRoy Charvat officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery, Rooks County, KS.

Douglas L. “Doug” Seltmann, age 63, died Monday, February 4, 2013, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.
He was born March 9, 1949, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Gilbert and Shirley (Moore) Seltmann.
He married Barbara (Peach) on August 7, 1970, in LaCrosse, Kansas.
He was a Postmaster in McCracken, Kansas and retired in 2000, after working 20 years in the postal service. He was raised in Nekoma, and attended school in Alexander, and was a graduate of LaCrosse High School. He moved to Hays, in 2010 from Liberty, MO. He played in the Sun Country Band, for 30 years, and enjoyed his music, reading, puzzles, and his family.
Survivors include his wife Barb Seltmann, of the home; three sons, Rick Seltmann and significant other, Shanna, Hays, KS; Ronnie Joe Seltmann and wife, Mary, Liberty, MO; Ryan Seltmann and wife, Melissa, Hays, KS; His mother, Shirley Seltmann, Rush Center, KS; one sister, Cindy Hemken and husband, Stan, Choctaw, OK; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orlando and Vera Peach, LaCrosse, KS; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.

He was born February 7, 1923, in Emmeram, Kansas, to Martin J. and Anna (Wasinger) Windholz. He married Irene (Geist) on April 30, 1945, in Hays, Kansas. She died June 11, 2002.
He was a farmer North of Emmeram, on the family farm and moved to Victoria, in 1976. He enjoyed his gardening, playing pinochle, his family and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas.
Survivors include one son, Alfred Windholz and wife, Judy, Victoria, KS; one son-in-law, Larry Karlin, Phillipsburg, KS; one daughter-in-law, Mary Catherine Windholz, Victoria, KS; one brother, Walter Windholz, Longmont, Co; 11 grandchildren, Janine Kisner (Jeff), Chris Windholz, Jared Windholz (Andrea), Dan Windholz, Deanna Bombardier (Ray), Denine Larson (Eric), Darren Windholz, Dale Windholz (Danielle), Aaron Karlin (Dedra), Eric Karlin (Cindy), Brandon Karlin; 18 great grandchildren.

Hays, Kansas – Dolores “Toots” Schlyer, age 84, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at her home in Hays, Kansas.
She was born February 21, 1928, in Hays, Kansas, to Richard J. and Molly Mary (Eichman) Dreiling. She married Robert “Bob” Schlyer on September 3, 1947, in Hays, Kansas.
She was a homemaker, and worked as a District Secretary for the Ellis County Conservation District for 29 years and retired in 1988. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Christian Mothers both of Hays, Kansas. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, volunteering at Hays Medical Center Auxiliary and the Community Assistance Center. She loved her family and grandchildren.

Logan resident, Ruby I. Ruff, passed away Sunday, January 27, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 73. She was born in Smith County, KS on July 1, 1939 to Thomas E. & Erma (Tuxhorn) Shockley. Ruby worked as an Asst. Bank Manager in Logan for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence “Sonny” Ruff and son, Richard, both of Logan; her daughter, Sheila Gift of Holyoke, CO; a brother, Marvin Shockley of Littleton, CO; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Shockley of Smith Center, KS; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 2:00 p.m. in the Logan Christian Church, Logan, KS, with Pastor Troy Buss officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.

Former Phillipsburg resident, Grace Brown Myers of Topeka, KS, passed away January 26, 2013 at the age of 101. She was born Sept. 21, 1911 in Cora, KS to Lon & Gertrude (Shepardson) Jennings. She worked as Women’s Editor for the Phillips County Review newspaper in Phillipsburg.

Roger, Arkansas – Leona (Goetz) Williams-Friederich, age 89, former Victoria, Kansas, resident died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at the Mercy Hospital in Rogers Arkansas.
She was born October 22, 1923, in Victoria, Kansas, to Andrew M. and Pauline (Krenzer) Goetz.
She married Jack Williams in 1942, he died in 1960. She married Bill Friederich in 1964, in Arkansas City, Kansas.
She lived in Wichita, Kansas, and moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1968. She was a beautician for 20 years. She was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Rogers, Arkansas. She was very active in her church, and was a loving mother, wife and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Friederich, Rogers, AR; two sons, Wayne Williams and wife, Janice, Eureka Springs, AR; Mark Williams and wife, Penny, Bella Vista, AR; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Goetz, Victoria, KS; six grandchildren, Stacy Kraft, Angie Morgan, Charles Bazarian, Jacqueline Williams, Brett Williams, Ryan Williams; four great grandchildren, Ross Nichols, Travis Nichols, Kyler Williams and Sydney Williams.
