Jennifer Lehmann

Jennifer Dawn Lehmann passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011, in the Kay Pogue Hospice Center at Salina after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of Edward and Lena (Scheck) Meder, born on September 17, 1975, at Hays. She graduated from Victoria High School with the Class of 1994. She then attended Fort Hays State University where she graduated in 1998 Magna Cum Laude with a degree in nursing.

On October 16, 2004, she was united in marriage with Vincent Lehmann, in St. Fidelis Catholic Church, at Victoria. He survives, of the home.

Jennifer worked at Salina Regional Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit until 2007. She then worked as a pediatric nurse at Salina Pediatric Care until she was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer on September 1, 2010. Jennifer was a devoted mother to her three precious children.

Jennifer was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Salina.

Other survivors include her three children, Macy age 6, Carson age 4 and Colten age 2; her mother, Lena Meder, of Victoria; a brother, Tom Meder and wife, Myra , of Pfeifer, three sisters, Cindy Robben and husband, Dan, and Jody Dinkel and husband, Dennis, all of Hays, Saundra Karlin and husband, Tom, of Victoria; several nieces and nephews, Jay Meder, Kiley Dinkel, Casey Dinkel, Danielle Robben, Weston Robben, all of Hays, Andrew, Maegan and Bryant Karlin, of Victoria, Renee and Jeremy Hawks, Christien and Dylan Hawks, all of Norton, Krista and Nathan Lund, Shelton and Parker, of Beloit. Her mother and father-in-law, Gene and Lynne Lehmann, of Luray; a brother-in-law, David Lehmann, of Hays.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her father on February 22, 2011.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday with a vigil service a 7 p.m. at the church and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Cline’s Mortuary, 412 Main, Victoria.

Hubertine Stramel
Pfeifer, Kansas – Hubertine Stramel, age 91, died Monday, October 17,  2011, at St. John’s of Hays Care Center, Hays, Kansas.
She was born April 5, 1920, at Pfeifer, Kansas, to Lawrence L. and Ida  (Werth) Urban. She married Leo Stramel on May 14, 1940 at Pfeifer, Kansas. He died May 29, 1994.
She was a homemaker, she and her husband owned the Stramel Grocery Store from 1944 to 1977, she assisted her husband in the Pfeifer Post Office for many years. She was a seamstress making wedding dresses, formal wear and other  clothing for many years, and crocheted many tablecloths. She was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Christian Mothers Altar Society all of Pfeifer, Kansas and was a volunteer at Hays Medical Center.
Survivors include one son, Gary L. Stramel and wife Arlene, Hays, KS; five daughters, Bernadette Strong and husband Merv, Littleton, CO; JoAnn Billinger, Russell, KS; Carol Billinger and husband Gilbert, Pfeifer, KS; Kathleen Pryor and husband Wayne, Colorado Springs, CO; Janice Seib and husband Don, Munjor, KS; one daughter-in-law, Catherine Stramel, Ellis, KS; two brothers, Gerald Urban, Andover, KS; Larry Urban and wife Rosie, Woodville, TX; two sisters, Arlene VanDeventer, Wichita, KS; Mildred Rohman, Colorado Springs, CO; 21 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; one step great granddaughter; and two great great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Edgar Urban, Walter Urban; one sister, Tillie Dollman; one infant sister, Mary Urban; one son, Leslie Stramel; two great grandsons, Bryden Leikam and Aaron Koehn.

Alice Milke
Gorham, Kansas – Alice Milke, age 84, died Sunday, October 16, 2011, at St. John’s Health Care Center, Victoria, Kansas.
She was born August 16, 1927, at Gorham, Kansas, to Alexander “Alex” and Elizabeth (Kisner) Mermis. She married Francis Joseph Milke on April 29, 1947, at Walker, Kansas. He died March 16, 2009.
She was a homemaker and a farmer. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Gorham, Kansas and Russell V.F.W. Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Kobbe and husband Randy, Powell, WY; one brother, Elmer Mermis and wife Delores, Russell, KS; one sister, Evelyn Warfield, Parkersburg, WV; three grandchildren, Terry Milke and wife Tammie, Angela Wilson, Miki Wilson; one great grandchild,
Trenton Wilson; one brother-in-law, Clarence Milke, Hays, KS; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Mermis, Gorham, KS and Sr. Gerry Milke C.S.J.,

Rose Ellen Eckhart

Rose Ellen Eckhart, age 60, of Hoxie, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at the Gove County Medical Center in Quinter. She was born on October 31, 1950 in Covington, KY. to Ciro and Doreen (Farrell) DelVecchio Sr.

She had worked in the lunch catering and delivery business. She was a member of the Hoxie United Methodist Church and she enjoyed fishing and playing cards with friends.

She is survived by a son, Dave Eckhart of Shawnee, KS; a daughter, Christy (Aaron) Taylor of Grainfield, KS; four brothers, Tony DelVecchio, Ciro (Cindy) DelVecchio, Earl (Becky) DelVecchio all of Cincinnati, OH. and David (Ginger) DelVecchio of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Sandra Newell of Salina and Diane DelVecchio of Great Bend. Three grandchildren, Brett Zordel, Hayley Taylor and Andrew Taylor, also survive her.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Hoxie United Methodist Church in Hoxie, Kansas. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Margie Lorraine Robben

Margie Lorraine Robben, age 86 of Gorham, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 at Hays Medical Center. She was born February 12, 1925 in Montrose, CO. to James M. and Carrieane (Hickock) Lipes. She married Eugene Robben on April 26, 1945 in Riverside, CA.

She was a cook at St. Mary’s Grade School in Gorham, clerked at JC Penney’s in Russell and managed a fabric store in Russell. She was a member of the American Legion Aux. in Russell for 41 years, a member of the VFW Ladies Aux. of Russell, bowled in Russell for 40 years, she enjoyed fishing and camping and was an avid machine knitter. She was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham for 65 years.

She is survived by her husband of the home, her children, Eugene W. Robben Jr. of Topeka, Kathleen Sewell of Gorham, Michael Robben of Wichita, Gail Wade of Denton, TX. and Scott Robben of Kansas City, MO; three sisters, Marie Donaldson and Helen Jaramillo of California and Roselee Proctor of Washington. 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 2 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.

Her parents; three brothers, James, Kenneth and Alton and a sister Virginia Bartling preceded her in death.

Richard G. Staab

Richard G. Staab, age 83, of Plainville, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 at Hays Medical center. He was born February 19, 1928 in Catharine, KS. to Albert J. and Ida (Weisner) Staab.

He had been a truck driver. He was a Merchant Marine veteran and a member of the Deer Trail, CO. Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by five brothers, Bob (Alice) Staab of Hays, Paul Staab of Thornton, CO., Frank (Irma) Staab of Colorado Springs, CO., Norman (Barbara) Staab of Tucson, AZ. and Joe Staab of Deer Trail, CO. and a sister, Rita Billinger of Hays. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Albert W. Staab and Fred “Buddy” Staab and a sister, Eileen Bollig.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Catharine, KS. Burial will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday 4 PM – 8 PM at Brock’s North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601. A rosary service will be Tuesday at 6:30 PM followed by a parish vigil at 7 PM all at the funeral home.

Robert Lester Herl

Robert Lester Herl, age 84, of Victoria, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at his home. He was born on October 14, 1926 in rural Munjor to Joseph and Catherine (Frank) Herl. He graduated from Hays High School in 1946. He married LaVerna Marie Dreher on April 19, 1950 in Liebenthal, Kansas.

He was a farmer and dairyman. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor, a 3rd and 4th degree Victoria Council Knights of Columbus and the Hays Lions club. Robert was an avid baseball fan, umpire and coach.

He is survived by his wife, LaVerna of the home, three sons, Kenneth (Cathy) Herl of Stratton, MO; Darrell (Kim) Herl and Robert D. (Ellie) Herl all of Hays; seven grandchildren, Shelly Dreher, Amy Bell, Kyle Herl, Justin Herl, Abby Herl, Emily Herl and Anna Herl. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren, Austin, Mackenzie and Brody Bell, Parker, Mason and Presley Dreher, Alyson and Graycee Herl and Averie Herl.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ernest Herl; a brother, Clarence Herl and four sisters, Albina Schuckman, Bertha Schaefer, Leona Herald and Genevieve Schuckman.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor. Burial will follow services in St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor.

Visitation will be Friday 3 PM – 8 PM and Saturday 8:45 AM until 9:30 AM all at Brock’s North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601.

A parish vigil service will be Friday at 6 PM followed by a Victoria Council 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 PM all at the funeral home.

Mark Neuberger

Mark Neuburger, 56, Hays, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011, at his home in Hays. He was born March 29, 1955, in Hays to Edward and Kathleen (Wiesner) Neuburger. He was a 1973 graduate of Ellis High School.

He worked as a siding installer for ABC Seamless Siding in Hays. He spent a large portion of his life working at maintenance jobs in Fountain Hills, Ariz. He was a charter member of the Sons of the American Legion, Fountain Hills, Ariz.

Survivors include a daughter, LeAnne Neuburger, Hays; one grandson Bailey Neuburger; one granddaughter, Addison Neuburger, Hays; three brothers, Glen and Dean Neuburger, Hays, and Tom Neuburger, Lawrence; four sisters, Billie Fuller, Salina, Peggy Waldschmidt, Ellis, Kathleen Morris, Newton, and Donetta Robben, Hays.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Daniel Neuburger.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ellis, with inurnment to follow in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Church. A rosary and Mass will follow. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Ellis.

Gorham, Kansas – Paul Mudd age 94, died Friday, October 14, 2011, at The Court of Overland Park, Kansas Care Center where he has be a resident for two years.
He was born March 25,1917, on the farm south of Gorham, Kansas, to Thomas I. and Mary Ann (Flavin) Mudd. He married Mary Isabelle (Dames) on April 14, 1951, at O’Fallon, Missouri. She died February 24, 2006.
He was lifetime resident of Gorham, Kansas, was a U S Air Force veteran and served during WWII. He was Postmaster and rural mail carrier at Gorham, Kansas, for over 30 years and carried mail at Hays, Kansas, for a few years before he retired. He was a farmer and a cattleman. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus both of Gorham, Kansas, and a member of American Legion Russell, Kansas.
Survivors include his son, Flavian Mudd, Overland Park, KS and one sister, Viola Mudd, Hays. KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Patrick Mudd; one brother, Bernard Mudd; one sister, Clem Polcyn one infant sister, Mary Olive Mudd.

Hays, Kansas – Dustin John Steinert, age 25, died Saturday, October 15, 2011, in an automobile accident in rural Ellis County.
He was born August 8, 1986, at Hays, Kansas, to Brian and Kayleen (Pfannenstiel) Steinert. He married Nicole (Hammerschmidt) on September 25, 2010, at Hays, Kansas.
He was a 2005 graduate of Hays High School and worked for I-70 Truck Repair in Hays, Kansas for 6 years. He was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church and a member of Schoenchen Knights of Columbus.

Florence Meckel

Florence Ilo Meckel, age 93, of Hays, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care Center. She was born on July 20, 1918 in Hays, Kansas to Alonzo and Neta (Lord) Brumitt. She married Vivian Meckel on June 11, 1939 in Hays at the First Baptist Church. He preceded her in death on 1981.

She was homemaker and was a member of the Hays First Baptist Church, P.E.O. Chapter EC, and S.A.I. She enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, reading and traveling.

She is survived by a son, Mark (Roberta) Meckel of Nashville, TN; three daughters, Marilyn (Ron) Davis of Russell, Marsha (Bill) Schmitt of El Paso, TX. and Michele Yancey of Mission, KS; a brother, Bill Brumitt of Willow Valley, PA; thirteen grandchildren, Beth Flegler, Mark, Paul, Matthew and David Davis, Anne Stoops, Ashley Arvidson, Katie Abbott, Nathan Meckel, Abra Niemiec, Natalie, Samantha and Alison Yancey; 23 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Gretchen Meckel and a sister, Bernice Benzinger.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the First Baptist Church 12th & Fort in Hays. Burial will be in Mt. Allen Cemetery in Hays.

Jarret Johnson
Jarret Johnson, age 26, of Ellis, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 the result of an automobile accident in Ellis. He was born December 16, 1984 in Hays to Randall and Rose (Younger) Johnson. He graduated from Ellis High School in 2003 and from Salina Vo-Tech with a degree in mechanics.

Jarret was a landscaper with Riedel Garden Center and had previously worked as a mechanic at James Motor Company. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis and he enjoyed woodworking and outdoor activities.

He is survived by his parents, Randall and Rose Johnson of Ellis; a brother, Darren Johnson of Ellis; a sister, Sherri Johnson of Manhattan and his grandparents, Gladys Johnson of Ellis and Richard and Betty Younger of Hays.

He was preceded in death by a grandfather, George Johnson and an uncle, Allen Younger.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis.

Edwin Arsenius Engel
Hays, Kansas – Edwin Arsenius Engel, age 85, of Loretto, Kansas, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Hays Medical Center Hays, Kansas.
He was born February 10, 1926, on the farm at Loretto, Kansas, to Anton and Pauline (Hertel) Engel. He married Ruth Marie (Suppes) on October 17, 1949, Loretto, Kansas.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and served during WW II. He attended school in Otis, was a graduate of Otis High School and attended Fort Hays State College. He was a lifetime farmer and a custom-cutter, owner of Loretto Grocery Store and worked in oil field construction for many years, a bus driver for Otis-Bison School District for nine years, a weather reporter for the National Weather Service for 50 years or more, and a lifetime resident of Rush County. He was the third baseman for the Loretto Semi-Pro Baseball Team, who received the Coca-Cola Award District Champions of the 1948 Northwest Kansas District Tournament. He was a  former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Loretto, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 2340, both of Liebenthal, Kansas, and was a lifetime member of the VFW of LaCrosse, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth M. Engel, of the home: five daughters, Donna Engel and husband Doral Woolen, Wasilla, Alaska; Sandra Caballero and husband Philip, Encounter Bay, South Australia; Paula Robben and husband Bill, Pampa, Texas; Joan Ice and husband Andrew, Johnson City, Tennessee, and Joyce Thompson and husband Kirk, Lancaster, KS; three sisters, Sister M. Rose Engel O.P., Great Bend, Marcella Klein, Hays, and Jane M. Isabella Sander

Great Bend, Kansas – Isabella Sander, age 88, died Monday, September 26, 2011, Hays Medical Center Hays, Kansas.

She was born January 4, 1923, at Liebenthal, Kansas, to Alex and Margaret (Kippes) Amrein. She married Edward Sander on September 3, 1946, at Ellis, Kansas. He died March 8, 1994.

She was a nurses aid at the Great Bend Manor for many years and grew up in Liebenthal, Kansas, and her family moved to Ellis, Kansas, in 1931. She moved to Elgin, IL, in 1947 and moved to Great Bend, Kansas, in 1969. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Great Bend, Kansas. She enjoyed working in the yard and walking. She has been a resident at the Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood, Kansas, for the last year and a half.

Survivors include her son, Ed Sander and wife Sandy, Great Bend, KS; one sister, Rose Younger and husband Cletus, Great Bend, KS; two
sisters-in-law, LaVern Amrein, Elgin, IL; Betty Amrein, Ellis, KS; two grandchildren, J.D. Sander and wife Nikki; Lora Johnson and husband Josh; four great grandchildren, Olivia Sander, Cameron Sander, Madison, Johnson and Dylan Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, John Amrein, Albert Amrein, George Amrein; and one infant sister, Paulina Maria Amrein.

Services are 2:00 P.M. Friday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery Victoria, Kansas.’

Ralph F. Sanders
Hays, Kansas – Ralph F. Sanders, age 81, died Friday, September 23,  2011, at St. John’s Health Care Center Victoria, Kansas.

He was born September 29, 1929, at Walker, Kansas, to John P. and Eva Brown Sander. He married Alma (Leiker) on August 13, 1955. He was a sales representative for the Lorillard Company for 30 years  and co-owners of the Dash in Deli convenience store for 11 years. He was a school bus driver for USD 489 for eight years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and served in the Korean conflict. He attended grade school in Pfeifer, Kansas and he graduated from St. Joseph Junior College Hays, Kansas. He attended Fort Hays State College Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Sanders, of the home; one son, Paul Sanders, Hays, KS; one daughter, Barbara Brenner and husband Darrell, Ness City, KS; one brother, Father Reginald Sander O.S.B., Tarkio, MO; two sisters, Velma Batchleder, Reno, NV; Lila Klein and husband Elmer, Wichita, KS; five grandchildren, Sara Siercks and husband Jay, Heather Yates and husband John, Cory Stein, Clinton Stein, Anthony Martinez; two great grandchildren, Emily Siercks and Tye Yates. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Gene, Fr. Edward, Adolph, Edgar, Virgil, Arthur, Elmer; five sisters, Sr. Evelyn Sanders C.S.J., Sophie Meiers, Angela Basgall, Florine Dome and Leona Klein.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church Hays, Kansas. LELAND J. “LEE” NEWELL

Leland J. “Lee” Newell, 60, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at the HaysMedicalCenter.
He was born July 27, 1951 in Stockton, Kansas the son of Lawrence and Rita (Brin) Newell. On May 5, 1979 he married Kristi Kisslinger in Victoria, Kansas. Lee worked for Union Pacific and Kyle Railroad for 40 years and was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Hays.
Survivors include his wife, Kristi of the home in Hays, son Nicholas Newell of Hays, and daughters Samantha and Sara Newell of Hays, brothers Harold Newell and his wife Joyce of Damar, KS and Dale Newell of Wichita, sisters, Albertine Garcia of Hill City, KS, Kathleen Brown and husband Lyle of Hill City, Lois Sumner and husband Pat of Colby, KS, and Carmen Sims and husband Don of Sedan, KS. He was preceded in death by a daughter Stephanie Newell, a sister Louise Newell, father-in-law Paul Kisslinger, and a brother-in-law Lou Garcia.

JAMES A. “JIM” DUFFY

James A. Duffy, 61, Hays, died Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the HaysMedicalCenter.
He was born November 21, 1949 in Tampa, Florida the son of Harold A. and Lois L. (Schafer) Duffy. He was married to Patty Higby from 1971 until 1985 and then married Nancy Jo Holaday on July 26, 1986 in Manhattan, Kansas. He graduated from FrankfortHigh School and from Manhattan Vo-Tech with a degree in auto mechanics. He then worked as an auto mechanic in Manhattan until 1988 when he moved to Hays to work for DSNWK. He was a member of the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Jo of the home in Hays, daughters, Ange Jones and her husband Kurt of Wichita, Kansas, Jennifer Piazza and her husband Greg of Dallas, TX, Kelsey Duffy of Manhattan, Kansas, and McKenna Duffy of Hays, grandson, Kyle Duffy Jones and granddaughter Kaylin Leigh Jones, sisters, Deanna Balaun and her husband Ralph of Marysville, Kansas, Carol Bennett and her husband Eldon of Vermillion, Kanas, and Linda Gresham and her husband Steve of Auburn, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harlan F. Murphy

Harlan F. Murphy, age 82, passed away Monday, September 19th at St. John’s Health Care Center of Hays. He was born on February 11, 1929, in Blue Earth, Minnesota to William and Isabelle (Willette) Murphy. He married Carlyn Burcham on January 3, 1953, in Abilene, Kansas.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea and retired from the Army Reserves as a Command Sergeant Major. He had worked in various administrative positions within the banking and Energy industries, until retiring from Midwest Energy, Inc., after 38 years of service. He held numerous positions with Midwest Energy and its predecessors, including President, Vice-President and Manager of Operations. In addition, he was involved in various community based organizations and committees, holding memberships and positions with the Hays Chamber of Commerce, Hays Public Housing Authority, United Way, Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development, Hays VFW and American Legion, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus Council #1325. He was also a member of Kiwanis for over 50 years, serving as past President of the Hays chapter, past Lt. Governor District 12 of Kansas, and he received the George F. Hixson Fellowship award in 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Carlyn of the home; his daughter, Connie Bollig of Hays; four brothers, Gerald and his wife Mary Ann of Guckeen, MN; William and his wife Beverly of Murfreesboro, TN; Stanley of Reno, NV; and Kevin of Blue Earth, MN; two sisters, Naomi Paul and her husband George of Easton, MN; and Teresa Reed of Olympia, WA; three grandchildren, Alison Alfonsi and her husband Corey of Topeka, KS; Ryan Bollig and Aaron Bollig, both of Kansas City; and a great-grandchild Carson Alfonsi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Cindy Murphy; two brothers, Duane and Clem Murphy; one sister, Mary Murphy; and a son-in-law Robert J. Bollig, Jr.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph cemetery with military honors by the Hays VFW and American Legion.

Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Thursday 9:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. at Brock’s North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601.

There will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 P.M. Wednesday followed by a parish vigil at 7:00 P.M. all at the funeral home.

Blaine Matthew Billinger

Overland Park, Kansas – Blaine Matthew Billinger, age 29, died Saturday, September 17, 2011, at St. Luke’s South Hospital in Overland
Park, Kansas.

He was born to Kenneth and Patty (Sander) Billinger. He graduated from Thomas More Prep-Marian High School, Hays,, Kansas, in 2000 and attended Friends University in Wichita. He was also active in Boy Scouts while living in Hays and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1996. He also served as a volunteer for the Kansas Special Olympics Basketball Tournament each year in Hays.

While in high school he worked as part-time radio announcer Blaine Matthews for KJLS, KKQY and KFIX. He lived in St. Louis 5 years working as an account manager for the May Company and then moved to Kansas City where he joined his father in the insurance business and also worked in the lawn and landscape business. Blaine loved animals, NASCAR racing, baseball, music and especially his Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his parents, Overland Park, girlfriend Stephanie Smiley, Overland Park. Lucille Marie Barber

Lucille Marie Barber, 89, died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, KS.

She was born September 17, 1922 in Plainville, KS the daughter of Charles and Stella (Fike) Yeagy. On April 1, 1945 she married Vuferd Lee Barber at the Glendale Methodist Church near Ramona, KS officiated by her brother, Rev. Robert Yeagy. Vuferd Lee Barber died September 30, 2001.

She was an elementary school teacher for 32 yrs. having taught in Alton, Plainville, Kinsley, Palco, Russell and Bushton. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Palco, the United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma, and received her BS and MS degrees in education from Fort Hays State University.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Lee Barber of Palco, KS, Kenneth Charles Barber and his wife Alice of Austin, CO, and Douglas Joe Barber of Palco, KS, one daughter, Betty Marie Burton and her husband Bob of Shawnee, KS, nine grandchildren, Tait Barber, Ryan Barber, Amanda Schneiweis, Chad Barber, Jeffrey Barber, Melanie Duncan, Nathan Burton, Kristin Copeland, and Zachary Burton, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Robert Yeagy, two sisters, Naomi Pinson and Mary Bishop, and a grandson Jaron Barber.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the United Methodist Church, Palco, KS. Burial will be in the Plainville Cemetery.
