Josephine “Josie” Robben

Walker, Kansas – Josephine “Josie” Robben, age 105, died Friday, December 30, 2011, At Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born January 20, 1906, in Emmeram, Kansas, to Martin and Catherine (Sander) Windholz. She married Francis H. Robben on October 28, 1929, at Emmeram, Kansas. He died February 14, 1974.

She was a homemaker and farmers wife on the farm south of Walker, Kansas. She received her teaching degree from Hays Normal School and was a school teacher at Emmeram, Kansas for three years before her marriage. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Christian Mothers both of Walker, Kansas, and a member of the Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was a resident at St. John’s Health Care Center since 2001.

Survivors include one son Norbert F. Robben, Walker, KS; three daughters, Shirley Vonfeldt and husband Francis, Plainville, KS; Lillian Hockman and husband Ken, Sacramento, CA; June Denning, Spring Hill, KS; one son-in-law, Marion Schumacher, Munjor, KS; two daughters-in-law, Louise Robben and Doris Robben, both of Victoria, KS; one sister-in-law, Hilaria Windholz, Victoria, KS; 26 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren; 33 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Kenneth Robben and Charles Robben; one daughter, Natalie Schumacher; one daughter-in-law, Theresa Robben; one infant son, Francis Henry Robben; six brothers, John, Michael, Wendelin, Isadore, Peter, Anselm “Scotty” Windholz; six sisters, Barbara Denning, Catherine Quint, Elizabeth Schmeidler, Magadalena Windholz, Eleanor Windholz, Mary Kuhn; two infant sisters, Marie Windholz and Maria Florina Windholz.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Tuesday January 3, 2012, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas. Burial at St. Ann’s Cemetery Walker, Kansas.

A vigil service is at 7:00 P.M. Monday followed by a St. Ann’s Christian Mothers rosary/ V.F.W. Auxiliary memorial service at 7:30 P.M. Alan Ross

Alan E. Ross, age 76, of Hays, passed away Thursday, December 22nd, 2011 at Via Christi Medical center St. Francis campus in Wichita. He was born January 2, 1935 in Hays, Kansas to Frank and Andrea (Meier) Ross. He was a 1953 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy in Hays. He married Wilma Schafer on February 11, 1956 in Hays.

Alan started his working career in the oil fields working various positions. Alan was also a Drug and Alcohol Counselor for many years and he was responsible for starting up the drug and alcohol unit at St. Anthony Hospital. He then became a truck driver for Williams Van Lines moving furniture. As a bus driver he worked for All American Tours as a tour bus driver driving throughout the country. He was a well known bus driver for TMP-Marian High School events and Fort Hays State University sporting events which he truly loved doing and being a part of the students life. He was also maintenance worker at TMP-Marian. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma of Hays; a son, Brian Ross and wife Peggy of Baton Rouge, LA; a grandson, Mark Ross of Houston, TX. and a sister, Irene Hauser of Louisville, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Ross; a sister, Mary Ellen Fromm and five brothers, Norbert, Francis, Pete, Louis and Richard.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday 9:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. all at Brock’s North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601.

A parish vigil service will be Monday at 6:30 P.M. at he funeral home.

James Lee Forsythe

Hays, KS – James Lee Forsythe, age 77, a native of Texas and longtime resident of Hays, Kansas, died December 16, 2011, at his son’s house in Russell, Kansas. He was born December 18, 1934, in Bransford, Texas. He was the son of Roy Theodore Forsythe and Irma Mae (Smith) Forsythe. He married Sherrill Kay (Zartman) on August 10, 1956. She died March 14, 2010. His ancestry is Scottish; the first Forsyths arrived in Orange County, North Carolina, in the 1780s.

James attended public school in Pleasant Run, Texas, and graduated from Grapevine High School in Grapevine, Texas. He earned his Associate Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of North Texas, and his Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico. He served three years in the Texas Air National Guard, two years active duty in the Army, and eight years of inactive duty in the Army Reserves.

James worked more than ten years for Delta Airlines in Texas, and thirty-six years at Fort Hays State University. While at the University, he held several positions, including a Professorship in the History Department, Chair of the History Department, Dean of the Graduate School, and Vice Provost. James was the progenitor and federal grant writer behind Fort Hays State University’s drive to become a computerized, hi-tech campus, beginning in the mid 1980s. Unknown to most, FHSU was for a decade the most highly computerized university in the United States. He retired in December of 1999.

He wrote two histories of Fort Hays State University, and co-authored a book on the Volga German settlement of western Kansas. In his final months of life, he wrote a book detailing his upbringing in Texas.

He was active in various political organizations, was president of both the Western Social Science Association and the Kansas State Historical Society, and was a member of the Hays Sister Cities Board. However, his most enjoyable times were spent with students in the classroom.

James was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three sons, James L. Forsythe Jr. and wife Rita Rae, Russell, KS; Garen David Forsythe and wife, Patricia Ann, Emporia, KS; Dana Sean Forsythe; two brothers, Calvin Forsythe, Paradise, TX; and Joe Forsythe, Euless, TX , five sisters Betty Bramlett, North Richland Hills, TX; Louise Evans, Alvarado, TX; Martha Bufe, Colleyville, TX; Jane Dethloff, Kennedale, TX; and Nancy Carroll, Kennedale, TX. He is survived also by four grandchildren: Ryan Tyler Forsythe, Hays, KS; Charissa Joann Forsythe, Ariel Annette Forsythe, and Kieran Richard Forsythe, all of Emporia, KS: one great-grandchild: Aidan Tyler Forsythe: two step grandchildren: Cristy Lea Dinkel and Craig Oren Atkerson, both of Hays, KS; two step great-grandchildren, Rylee Daven Atkerson and Reanna Renee Atkerson, both of Hays, KS.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays 1919 East 22nd Hays, KS 67601. Pastor Benny Lowery will officiate. The funeral service will be followed by a brief graveside service and interment at Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, Kansas, with military honors by the Hays V.F.W. Post No. 9076.

Visitation will be at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, and 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, the American Parkinson Disease Association, the Humane Society of the High Plains, and History Department Scholarships at Fort Hays State University. John Richard Logsdon

Hays, Kansas – John Richard Logsdon, age 95, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Hays Good Samaritan Center Hays, Kansas.

He was born November 3, 1916, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to William and Rosa (Haddix) Logsdon. He married Dorothy (Carr) in 1942, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She died in 1971. He married Twila (Goetz) in 1972, at Wichita, Kansas.

He grew up in Chickasha, Oklahoma, then moving to Anthony, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army as a tank commander in the Fourth Armored Division during WWII. He retired as a Captain after 21 years in the Active and Reserved Service – and remained active in the military activities. He worked in retail most all of his life and was General Merchandize Manager for Hinkle’s Department Stores in Wichita, New Mexico and Texas. In 1975, he moved to Hays, Kansas, he and his wife Twila owned and operated Ann’s Dress Shop from 1975 to 1982. He worked for the National Insurance Company, The J C Penney Company and owned and managed five cable TV systems in Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Twila Logsdon of the home; two sons, Richard Logsdon and wife, Mary Pat, Virginia Beach, VA; John Michael Logsdon and wife, Christina, Grand Junction, CO; one sister, Mary Sine, Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren, Meghan McDonald and husband, Ryan, Amanda Logsdon, both of the Washington DC area; Taylor Logsdon, Basalt, CO; Will Logsdon, Hastings, NE; two great grandchildren, Chase McDonald and Finn McDonald.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy; an infant son; four brothers, George, Bill, Bernard, Ed Logsdon; two sisters,
Rose Ewing and Sister Imelda Logsdon, Benedictine. Services are 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 17, 2011, at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church Hays, Kansas, with military honors by the Hays V.F. W. Post No. 9076. A private family Inurnment will be at Lakeview Cemetery Wichita, Kansas, at a later date.

A celebration of life and vigil service will be at 7:00 P.M. Friday at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays 1919 East 22nd Hays, Kansas. The family will

Alma Billinger

Victoria, Kansas – Alma Billinger, age 84, died Friday, December 2, 2011, at her home in Victoria, Kansas.

She was born March 21, 1927, at Victoria, Kansas, to John A. and Rosa (Dreiling) Weber. She married Gilbert Billinger on October 16, 1944, at Victoria, Kansas. He died September 29, 1992.

She was homemaker, worked at the old St. Anthony Hospital in housekeeping and did housekeeping for a number of people in the Hays and Victoria area. She was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and Secular Franciscan Order, both of Victoria, Kansas.

Survivors include two sons, Gilbert Billinger Jr. and wife, Carol, Pfeifer, KS; Larry Billinger, Salina, KS, one daughter-in-law, Roseann Billinger, Hays, KS, 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Leo Francis Billinger and Thomas Lee Billinger, two brothers, Herman Weber and Albert Weber; four sisters, Clara McNett, Blanche Windholz, Ida Rupp, Mathilda Bollig.

Daniel J. Edsall

Daniel J. Edsall, age 66, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Smith County Memorial Hospital Smith Center, Kansas.

He was born October 27, 1945, in Hays, Kansas, to Claude and Barbara Anna (Weber) Edsall. He married Patsy (Kuntzsch) Braun on May 25, 1996, at Russell, Kansas.

He was a farmer and also worked for the Leo J. Dreiling’s Farms. He attended Victoria High School, was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas, and moved to Hays in 1998. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was living at the Hays Good Samaritan Center and the Prairie Haven Nursing Center at Kensington, Kansas this past year.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Edsall, of the home; one step son, Fred Braun and wife, LaDonna Braun, Bunker Hill, KS; three step daughters, Sharon Rupp, Karen Riedel and husband, Lloyd, Connie Pemberton and husband, Del, all of Hays, KS; two brothers, his twin, Frank Edsall, Ivan Edsall and wife, Kathy, all of Victoria, KS; 10 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lucille Alene Keller

Hays, Kansas – Lucille Alene Keller, age 93, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born July 17, 1918, in rural Trego County Kansas, to Samuel M. and Ludwicha (Sauer) Glass. She married Rudolph R. Keller on November 21, 1938, at Ellis, Kansas. He died November 13, 1969.

She was raised in Ellis, Kansas, and moved to Hays, Kansas, in 1941. She was a manager for Montgomery Wards in Hays, Kansas, for 30 years and retired in 1980. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays, Kansas and has been with the Hays Senior Center as Past President and Advisory Board member since 1982.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Samuel H. Glass; and four sisters, Minnie Kennedy, Marie Salmon, Freda Bunker and Hilda Glass.

Robert F. (Bob) Unrein

Victoria, Kansas – Robert F. (Bob) Unrein, age 72, died Friday, November 25, 2011, at his home in Victoria, Kansas.

He was born February 18, 1939, in Hays, Kansas, to Peter C. and Lucida (Schutz) Unrein. He married Rose Marie (Brungardt) on June 13, 1964 at Victoria, Kansas. He was veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1957 to 1965. He was a sheet metal worker and worked at Charles Leiker Plumbing and Heating, Midland Inc., and 30 years for Glassman Corp. all in Hays, Kansas. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and has lived in Victoria, Kansas since 1964.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Unrein, of the home; one son, Robbie Unrein and wife, Brenda, Hoisington, KS; one daughter, Ramona Weigel and husband, Roger, Hays, KS; one brother, Pete Unrein and wife, Dorothy, Hays, KS; seven sisters, Jeanie Brungardt and husband, Larry, Victoria, KS; Polly Aucoin and husband, Richard, TX. Brendan Lewis Young

Brendan Lewis Young, age 22, of Hays, passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 at his home in Manhattan. He was born September 20, 1989 in Hays, Kansas to Jeff and Ann (Molz) Young. He was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church of Hays and he graduated from Hays High School.

Brendan was working as a Graphic Artist at GTM in Manhattan while attending Kansas State University studying Graphic Design. He was an Artist, Musician, Athlete and Honor Student.

He is survived by his parents Jeff and Ann Young of Hays; a brother, Ethan Young of Los Angeles attending UCLA; a sister, Sarah Young of Hays attending FHSU and his maternal grandparents, Lewis and Agnes Molz of Deerfield, KS.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jeff and Gwen Young and an uncle, Parker Young.

Visitation will be Sunday with the family present from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Brock’s North Hill Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS. 67601. Private family funeral services will be held on Monday.

Lucille Staab

Lucille Staab, 90, Hays, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, at Good Samaritan Society, Hays. She was born Feb. 18, 1921, in Ellis County to John M. and Agnes (Spies) Younker.

She married Edwin Staab on May 21, 1941, in Ellis. He preceded her in death July 29, 1980. She was employed at Fort Hays State University in the housekeeping department for 26 years, and she was a waitress for 40 years, including many at Country Kitchen.

She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Ladies Auxiliaries, all of Hays. She enjoyed reading, embroidery and visiting with her customers as a waitress.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Sauer and husband, Gus, Hays; a brother, Walter Younker, Hays; three sisters, Katherine Schmidt and Florine Sanders, both of Hays, and Twila Griffin, Weatherford, Okla.; a sister-in-law, Rita Younker, Plainville; two grandsons, Randy Sauer and wife, Niki, and Kevin Sauer, all of Hays; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Dylan Sauer and Courtny Sauer, all of Hays; and a great-great-grandchild, Kendall Schulte, Hays.

She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Staab; and a brother, Clarence Younker.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, both at Brock’s North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

Hays, Kansas – Julieta S. (Lola) Ruperto, age 94, died Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born July 7, 1917, at Isabella Negros Occ., Philippines, to Sotaro and Rosela (Diamante) Sakamoto.

She was a homemaker. She grew up in the Philippines and came to the United States in 1975. She lived in Virginia and California before moving
to Kansas in 1979. She lived in Natoma then moved to Hays in 2004. Survivors include one son, Dominador Ruperto Jr. and wife, Lupe, Chula
Vista, CA; five daughters, Felisa Clair and husband, Bill, Hays, KS; Filomena Llanes and husband, Leonardo, Long Beach, CA; Milagros Tenorio, Natoma, KS; Nellie Santos, Hays, KS; Ligaya (Joy) Tauro and husband, Conrado, Natoma, KS; one step daughter, Vicky Ramos Ocala, FL; 22 grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren. She was born July 7, 1954, at Hays, Kansas, to Ted T. “Lucky” and Dorothy P. (Dinges) Burkart. She married Daniel James Steffen on October 21, 1989, in Hays.

She was a payroll clerk for U.S.D. #489 in Hays Kansas, for five years. She was a 1972 graduate of Hays High School and attended Fort Hays State University both of Hays. She also worked at Baxter Labs., Kline’s Department Store, Hays Path Lab/Central Plains Lab all in Hays, Kansas. She was activity involved with the Ellis County Habitat for Humanity and Kansas Association of School Board Officers. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hays.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Steffen, of the home; one son, Cody James Steffen, Kansas City, MO; her mother, Dorothy Burkart, Hays,
KS; one brother Tom Burkart and wife Darlene, Pueblo, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Steve Burkart; and one nephew Clayton Burkart.

Services are 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 5. 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2704 Fort Hays, Kansas. Inurnment will be in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

Carol Jane Cline

Victoria, Kansas – Carol Jane Cline, age 81, died Monday, October 31, 2011, at St. John’s Health Care Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born January 26, 1930, at Neodesha, Kansas, to Harry Paul McCullough I (1st) and Edna (Doty). She married Harold F. Cline on December 28,1950, at Paola, Kansas. He died January 6, 2005.

She was an Assistant Funeral Director with her husband at Cline’s Mortuary, Victoria, Kansas, and at Cline’s Funeral Home, Russell, Kansas  until 1988. She moved to Victoria, Kansas from Overland Park, Kansas in 1960 and lived in Russell, Kansas from 1975 to 1988, then moving back to Victoria, Kansas in 1988. She attended The Ursuline College in Paola, Kansas, and was a school teacher at Louisburg, Kansas for a few years. She was a substitute teacher in Victoria and Russell, Kansas. She was a Foster Grandparent with Fort Hays State University and worked at the Hays Public Library in the Children’s Department for over 20 years. She enjoyed painting ceramics, playing Bridge, in doubles and tournaments at Hays and Russell, Kansas, pinochle, bingo and her pets. She was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella and V.F.W. Auxiliary all of Victoria, Kansas.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Ubert and husband Robert, Overland Park, KS; five sons, Craig Cline and wife Jane, Russell, KS; Chris Cline and wife Mary, Gorham, KS; Dr. Kevin Cline and wife Wendy, Derby, KS; Kirk “Cookie” Cline and wife Debi, Hays, KS; Carl Cline and  wife Kelly, Lawrence, KS; 19 grandchildren, Michael Ubert, Brian Ubert, Steven Ubert, Stephanie Harris and husband Michael, Christina Cline, Eric Cline and fiancé Erica Daniels, Megan Cline, Adam Cline and wife Tammy,  Joshua Cline and wife Rachel, Laramie Cline, Kyle Cline, Andrea Cline, Brent Cline, Jeremy Cline, Aaron Cline, Justin Cline, Jordan Cline, Kendall Scoboria and husband Evan, Kelsey Henry and husband A.J.; five great grandchildren, Myranda Harris, Preston Harris, Danica Cline, Brody Cline and Indy Dreiling; one sister-in-law, Naomi McCullough, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold F. Cline; two brothers, John Richard McCullough and Harry Paul McCullough II; and one sister, Mari Lou Saunders.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 5, 2011, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery Victoria, Kansas.

A Victoria Daughters of Isabella and V.F.W. Auxiliary rosary and memorial service is at 7:00 P.M. Friday followed by a vigil service at 7:30 P.M. all at Cline’s Mortuary 412 Main Victoria, Kansas, 67671. Visitation is from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M.  Saturday all at Cline’s Mortuary Victoria, Kansas.

ANN H. JETER

Ann H. Jeter of Hays, beloved mother, grandmother, longtime arts advocate, and friend to many, died at Hays Med on Sunday, October 30, 2011. She was 95 years old.

Annie Haley Horton Jeter was born August 13, 1916, in Manhattan, Kansas, to Margaret Ann (Huston) and William Ryneck Horton. She grew up in Atwood, Kansas. Ann attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence and graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in History in 1939. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Ann married Norman W. Jeter, a Hays lawyer, on December 21, 1940. As a resident of Hays, she undertook many volunteer activities, including: twenty-five years continuous service as a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross; organizer and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary at Hadley Regional Medical Center; board member and past president of the Hays Public Library; an organizer and charter member of the Ellis County Historical Society; and board member of the Hays United Fund. In 1987, she was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from Fort Hays State University.

In addition, Ann became very involved in promoting the arts in Kansas. Beginning in the 1960s, she helped found the Hays Arts Council, serving as a board member for six years and president for one year. She was also an organizer, board member and president of the Association of Community Arts Councils of Kansas. In 1980, she was appointed by Gov. John Carlin to the board of the Kansas Arts Commission and appointed president in 1983.

Ann had many other accomplishments in culture and the arts. As chairman of the Interior Design Committee of Hadley Regional Medical Center, she helped introduce to Western Kansas the concept of Institutional Patron of the Visual Arts. Today the Hadley Art Collection is the largest collection of original art in the Western half of Kansas. Along with her husband, Norman Jeter, she received the 1997 Governor’s Arts Award for her outstanding contribution to the art community, presented by the Honorable Bill Graves, Governor of Kansas, and the Kansas Arts Commission.

She was a member of the BQ chapter of PEO, Sewing Club, Book Club, the Courtney-Spalding chapter of DAR, and the “Crafters” of the Hays Med Volunteers. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe, with the Friends of Art of the Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, and loved to host family holidays and other family gatherings at her home in Hays.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Margaret Doan and her husband Alan of Parkville, Missouri; and three sons: Joseph W. Jeter and his wife Cheryl of Hays, William W. Jeter and his wife Nancy of Hays, and Dr. John H. Jeter and his wife Ann Marie of Hays. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Ellen Horton of Atwood, as well as eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of sixty-eight years, Norman; brother William R. Horton; sister Hortense Beck and her husband Dr. Joseph D. Beck; and half-sister Naomi Nash and her husband Charlie.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 29th and Hall in Hays, on Friday, November 4, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., with pastor Jerry Foust officiating. Interment will be at the Mount Allen Cemetery in Hays. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, Hays, Kansas. Memorials may be given in Ann’s name to the Hays Arts Council or the Hays Medical Center Foundation in care of the Funeral Home.

John C. Ginther

John C. Ginther, age 76, of Hays died Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at his home in Hays.

John was born February 18, 1935, in rural Graham County, Kansas to Ivan and Hazel (Stephen) Ginther. He was baptized into the United Brethren Church at an early age, later joining the Methodist Church. John married Bonnie Worcester on September 1, 1954. They each grew from birth to adulthood in the same Graham County farming community. They each graduated from Hill City Memorial High School.

John was a Kansas Independent Oil Producer. He enjoyed the outdoors, was fond of horses, and liked taking his family boating. He had lifelong interests in vocal music and agriculture.

Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Loren of Hays, Clay of Dodge City, and Les of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; three daughters, Lucy of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carmen of Laramie, Wyoming, and Carrie of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; three sisters, Alwyn Johnson of Sanibel, Florida, Sharon Lewis of Idaho Springs, Colorado, and Jerilyn Cannon of Iola, Kansas; three brothers, Verlyn of Garden City, Garland of Fulton, Ks., and Gary of Goodland, Kansas; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Darlene Brown.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church., seventh and ash in Hays. Burial will be in the Mt. Allen Cemetery in Hays. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the service time at the church. A memorial has been established in his name and memory for the John C. Ginther High Plains Band and Orchestra Camp Scholarship Fund in care of the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Condolences may be given to the family at www.haysmemorial.com
