KHAZ Country Music News: Jake Owen and Wife Lacey Welcome Their First Child on Thanksgiving Day

Congratulations to Jake Owen and his wife, Lacey, on the birth of their first child, Olive Pearl Owen. The bundle of joy came into the world Thursday in Nashville weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 19 and half inches long. The child will go by her middle name Pearl in honor of Jake’s godmother who passed away earlier this year.

Says Jake, “Lacey and I are so excited to start our own family. We are looking forward to teaching Pearl everything we learned from our parents and also learning from her.”

Jake posted a picture of himself holding his baby girl on Twitter Thursday.

KHAZ Country Music News: Martin Scorsese in Talks to Direct Garth Brooks TV Special from Wynn Las Vegas

Garth Brooks‘ run of shows at the Wynn Las Vegas may be over, but he plans to return to the resort’s Encore Theatre for a live TV event soon. According to the Las Vegas Sun, Wynn honcho Steve Wynn is in talks with Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese to helm Garth’s TV production.

Garth remains a little tentative when speaking about the live broadcast, saying, “It would be amazing if it works out with Scorsese. I’m not confirming or denying that.”

Garth will now begin planning a return to the road, and Steve Wynn hints that will kick off in August 2014. Wynn says that trek will take six months to put together, and Garth just wants to spend time at home with his youngest daughter before she heads off to college in 2014.

KHAZ Music News: Country Music Earns Multiple Nominations For People’s Choice Awards

(AP) – Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Blake Shelton have earned multiple nominations for the 2013 People’s Choice Awards. The nominations in music, film and television categories were announced Thursday morning. Shelton is up for overall favorite male artist. Swift and Underwood are both nominated for overall favorite female artist. They are also nominees in the favorite country artist category along with Jason Aldean and Tim McGraw. Swift gets another nod for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” which is nominated in the all-genre favorite song category, and Underwood’s “Blown Away” is nominated for overall favorite album. The Awards will air live from Los Angeles on January 9 on CBS.

KHAZ Music News: Jason Aldean’s Marriage Is On The Mend After Photo Scandal

(AP) – Jason Aldean and his wife Jessica Ussery are doing “fine” after photographs of the singer looking very cozy with season-11 “American Idol” contestant Brittany Kerr were made public a little over a month ago. The married couple made an appearance on “CBS This Morning” yesterday. Sitting next to his wife of 11 years, Aldean said it was “tough” to go through but they’ve “been together for a long time and been through a lot of things together.” Ussery said she would love to hear stories from any couple that’s been married for 30, 40, 50 years. Aldean says “those are things that most people get to deal with in private,” but fame didn’t allow them what he calls “the luxury of doing that.”

KHAZ Music News: Road Trip: Keith Urban, Little Big Town And Dustin Lynch

(AP) – Keith Urban, Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch are going on a cross-country road trip. Urban announced the first leg of his 2013 North American Tour and Little Big Town and Lynch are joining him. The group has opted to take to the road instead of flying to their tour destinations and that explains the funny video Urban posted on his website. It shows the Urban, Lynch and the members of the band piled into a car and singing some of their favorite songs to pass the time. Who would’ve guessed – Poison and Sir Mix-a-Lot? The tour kicks off next summer in Cincinnati.

KHAZ Music News: George Jones To Play Final Show In Nashville Next Year

(AP) – George Jones will play his final tour date at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. The show will be the last of The Grand Tour which is Jones’ farewell tour. The Possum says surprises are in store. He’s got lots of friends and they just might show up for his last concert tour date. Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the November 22, 2013 show.

KHAZ Music News: Trace Adkins Will Help Usher In Christmas At Rockefeller Center

(AP) – The annual lighting of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center will take place November 28 and Trace Adkins will help celebrate. He joins artists including Mariah Carey, Cee Lo Green, and Rod Stewart for the holiday extravaganza that airs live on NBC. This year’s tree is a Norway Spruce approximately 80 feet tall.

(AP) – Blake Shelton is one of the sexiest men alive according to People magazine. And wife Miranda Lambert. Shelton has been on People’s list twice before in 2008 and 2010. Lambert tells People that what makes her husband sexy is that he’s “very caring and loyal.” Actor Channing Tatum took top place as 2012’s sexiest man.

KHAZ Music News: Martina McBride To Perform On CBS Thanksgiving Day Show

(AP) – If Martina McBride doesn’t want to cook on Thanksgiving, she has a good excuse. She’ll be performing on the CBS Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast live from New York City. Laura Bell Bundy will also be on the show as the “on-the-street” reporter. She’ll be interacting with the crowd during the parade.

(AP) – Shawna and Keifer Thompson of Thompson Square have turned a hit song into a novel. They are releasing a book called “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not?” next June. It centers around two characters who write music together and face a long and complicated road to love. The duo wrote the novel with Christian author Travis Thrasher.

(AP) – Miranda Lambert wants to hear more women on country radio. She says she’s concerned that there are not more female singers breaking through. For three years in a row, Lambert has been named the Country Music Association female vocalist of the year. She says she kicked the door open and she’s going to hold her leg in there for more talented women to follow.
