Senior Rachel Jacobs hit a three-pointer with 28 seconds left in the game Friday afternoon against Goodland in the consolation semifinals of the Trojan Classic and became the all-time career leading scorer at Thomas More Prep – Marian.

After suffering a loss in the opening round in the Hillsboro Tournament, The Lady Monarchs (8-3) responded with a 64-43 victory over the Cowgirls.

TMP only held a one-point lead after the first quarter against a now 0-10 Goodland team. The Lady Monarchs opened the game up by starting the second quarter on a 20-0 run ending the first half with a 38-17 lead.

Senior Jenna Lang ended with 16 points and 10 rebounds and senior Rebecca Pray put in a season-high 10 points. Along with her 15 points, Jacobs added eight rebounds and four blocks.

No. 15 FHSU Wrestling Comes Up Just Short At No. 15 Adams State

(FHSU Athletics Photo)

No. 11 Adams State won three of the last four matches to erase a 16-6 deficit and defeated No. 15 Fort Hays State on Thursday night (Jan. 19) in Alamosa, Colo. The close dual saw both teams win five matches each. The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-2 in duals and 2-2 in the RMAC.

After falling behind 16-6, the Grizzlies won two straight to pull even at 16-16. ASC’s Jerry Huff scored six points with a pin of FHSU’s Collin Hase in the 125-pound match to cut the Tiger lead to just four at 16-12. A major decision win by No. 4 Ryan Fillingame at 133 tied the match at 16 as Fillingame defeated Kyle Johnson 11-0.

The Tigers pulled ahead, 19-16, after CJ Napier scored three points with a 4-2 decision win over ASC’s Casey Lynn at 141. However, the Tigers lead didn’t last as No. 4 Josh Hensley of ASC scored a tech fall in the final match (16-0) to push the Grizzlies to a 21-19 win over the visiting Tigers.

FHSU built the 16-6 advantage by winning four of the first six matches, including three straight. Sam Thoman (165) pinned Justin Samora at 1:58 to give the Tigers their first win and a 6-3 lead. Benny Armstrong followed the Thoman victory with a win of his own at 174 pounds, defeating Jarrod Purvis in an 8-6 decision to increase the score to 9-3. The Tigers made it three straight wins and upped the score to 13-3 as Josh Rodriguez scored a major decision win (11-2) over Darian Roberts at 184 pounds.

After a Grizzlies win at 197, Justin Glenn extended the advantage back to 10 at 16-6, defeating Taylor Stam in a 10-5 decision at 285.

The Tigers return to action in 10 days in the Kansas Cup on Jan. 29 in Baldwin City, Kan. The event starts at 9 a.m.
