TMP Football To Take On Cimarron At Lewis Field Stadium (LISTEN LIVE or WATCH)

Thomas More Prep – Marian will try to get out of a slump tonight as they host Cimarron at Lewis Field Stadium at 7PM.

Since starting the season 3-0, the Monarchs have lost two straight games to LaCrosse and Hoisington. TMP (3-2), who has averaged 32 points per game this year, has yet to score in the second half the last two weeks.

A few changes for the Monarchs this week, as they will start Dylan Gottschalk at tailback. Gottschalk has only received two carries the entire season, but coach Jon Borer mentioned Gottschalk has been running hard in practice this week and deserves a chance. The Herd would definitely like to see an improvement in the running game that was only able to produce 14 yards rushing last Friday against Hoisington. Also, slot receiver Dylan Schumacher will be out due to a hand injury so freshman Nick Schmidt will start in his place. Senior quarterback Nick Hammeke who has thrown for over 1,300 yards this year may even see some time on defense tonight with the absence of Schumacher.

Cimarron brings in a 2-3 record to Lewis Field. The Bluejays squeaked out a 46-40 win last week against Larned. Cimarron is fairly balanced as their senior quarterback Tyler Siek has thrown for 547 yards so far this year and they have another bruising tailback in Alex Neuschafer. Neuschafer is averaging 123 yards rushing per game and is coming off a four-touchdown performance last week against Larned.

This is just the 4th all-time meeting between these schools. The Bluejays lead the series 2-1 and won last year 40-14 in Cimarron. Listen to the Fort Hays Auto Sales Pregame Show tonight starting at 6:30 on 14 KAYS. Kickoff set for 7:00.

Klein Emerges As Leader For No. 20 Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) – Collin Klein doesn’t have the smoothest throwing motion. He takes a lot of hits and doesn’t always make the best decisions.

But what has thrust the quarterback onto the national radar are the results – Klein has No. 20 Kansas State off to a 4-0 start and its highest national ranking since 2003.

Klein spent last season as a change-of-pace quarterback, someone that coach Bill Snyder could send into the game to run the option.

This season, Klein has taken almost every snap for the Wildcats, and has shown enough passing ability to keep defenses guessing.

That’s what happened last Saturday, when Kansas State upset then-No. 15 Baylor. And it’s what will need to happen this Saturday when the Wildcats host Missouri.

Women’s Soccer Falls At Home To SBU

The Fort Hays State women’s soccer team allowed three first half goals, including two goals within 30 seconds as the Tigers fell, 3-1, to visiting Southwest Baptist on Tuesday (Oct. 4) afternoon at the FHSU Soccer Stadium in Hays.

In a very windy match with strong gusts, the visiting Bearcats scored all three of their goals with the wind at their backs. The first SBU goal occurred on a misplayed ball by the Tigers. A FHSU defender misplayed a ball in the strong wind, allowing the ball to go into the FHSU goal. The score happened at 11:43 to put SBU up 1-0.

The Tigers tied the game back up, scoring at 17:38 on a shot off the foot of Joanne Glynn, her team-leading fifth of the season. A Hailey Davey pass set up the Glynn goal.

SBU took the lead for good with goals 30 seconds apart. The first goal came at 39:10 when Jade Barnden knocked in a cross by Caitlin Suerig. The Bearcats doubled their lead on a Merene Gomez goal to push the score to 3-1 in favor of SBU.

The Tigers had their opportunities in the second half with the wind at their backs, but FHSU could not knock in another goal for the final 3-1 score.

FHSU travels on the road for their next two contests. On Thursday (Oct. 6), the Tigers go to Emporia, Kan. to take on Emporia State at 4 p.m. FHSU travels to Missouri Southern on Saturday (Oct. 8) for an 11 a.m. game.
