Lavern J. Braun

Victoria, Kansas – Lavern J. Braun, age 73, died Thursday, October 31, 2013, in rural Ellis County from injuries in an auto accident.
He was born December 12, 1939, on the farm at Vincent, Kansas, to Wendelin A. and Clarita (Rohr) Braun. He married Darlene (Dinkel) on May 4, 1963, in Ellis, Kansas.
He was a farmer, an over the road truck driver and retired after 42
years of being on the road. He was a 1958 graduate of Victoria High
School, a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church at Vincent and a member
of Victoria Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his family and his
grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of the home; two sons, Rick Braun
and wife, Janice, Victoria, KS; Terry Braun and wife, Krista, Victoria,
KS; three sisters, Doris Robben, Louise Robben and Rosie Dinkel, all of
Victoria, KS; four grandchildren, Jenna Dempewolf and husband, Andrew,
Lane Braun, Jacy Braun, Walker Braun; and his beloved dog, Bear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers-in-law,
Charles Robben, Kenneth Robben and Donald Dinkel.
Services are 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 4, 2013, at St. Fidelis
Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas. Burial in St. Boniface Cemetery, Vincent, Kansas.
A vigil service will be at 7:00 P.M. Sunday, followed by a Victoria
Knights of Columbus rosary and a Class of 1958 rosary at 7:30 P.M. all at
St. Fidelis Church, Victoria, Kansas.
Visitation is from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Sunday, at St. Fidelis Church,
Victoria, Kansas, and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Monday, at Cline’s Mortuary,

Robert E. Hiser
Hays, Kansas – Robert E. Hiser, age 61, died Saturday, October 26,
2013, at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born May 5, 1952, in Hays, Kansas, to Charles L. and Ruth
Virginia (Thompson) Hiser. He married Betty (Spratling) on November
1,1974, in Norton, Kansas.
He was a Project Superintendent for 26 years with Paul Wertenberger
Construction Company in Hays, Kansas. He was member of Trinity Lutheran
Church, Hays, Kansas, a 1970 graduate of Norton High School and Fort Hays State University.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hiser, of the home; twin daughters,
Andrea Oldham and husband, Kevin, Lees Summit, MO; Amy Charpie and
husband, John, Lees Summit, MO; his mother, Ruth Hiser, Long Beach, CA;
one brother, Tom Hiser and wife, Vickie, Seward, NE; one sister, Mary
Harvey and husband, Jack, Norton, KS; three grandchildren, Gracie, Ella
and Landon.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services are 9:30 A.M. Friday, November 1, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran
Church, 2703 Fort Street, Hays, Kansas. Inurnment will be at 3:00 P.M.
Friday in the Norton City Cemetery, Norton, Kansas.

Laura Allen

Phillipsburg resident, Laura Allen, passed away Thurs., Oct. 24, 2013 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 68.

She was born Oct. 13, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY to Max & Mae Frances (Varley) Belgrade.  Her parents, one granddaughter, and 2 great-granddaughters preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of the home; son, Mark Allen, of Phillipsburg; daughters, Dawn Bogart, Corinna Johnson, and Monica Christensen, all of Phillipsburg; brothers, Steven Belgrade of New London, CT and Cory Belgrade of Hawthorne, NJ; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wed., Oct. 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Church of God, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Tim Kraft officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Mrs. Allen will lie in-state on Monday from 5-9 p.m. and Tues. from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

David R. Nichols

Phillipsburg resident, David R. Nichols, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 at the Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home in Beloit, KS at the age of 72.

He was born in Denver, CO on April 16, 1941 to Hugh & Vina (Weatherwax) Nichols.  David had been a sheet metal worker in the construction industry.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, of the home in Phillipsburg; son, David, of Delores, CO and stepson, Frank Weir of Grand Junction, CO; stepdaughters, Adeane Dellemonache of Denver, CO and Alichia Grammer of Gilbert, AZ; 3 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; and 4 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 28, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Mark Gervais officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Visitation will be Sat. & Sun. from noon – 9 p.m. and again Monday from 9 a.m. until service time at the chapel.

Alice Boyd

Phillipsburg resident, Alice Boyd, passed away Tues., Oct. 22, 2013 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 97.

She was born August 16, 1915 in Phillips County to John & Lulu (Crider) Boyd.  Alice spent her life in Christian service as a pastor and missionary.

She is survived by two sisters, Pauline Kingrey of Arvada, CO and Lucille Schneider of Dallas, OR, and nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Randy D. Garner officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Ms. Boyd will lie in-state Friday from noon – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Greison Jay Zahn

Greison Jay Zahn, infant son of Toby Jay Zahn and Victoria Jade Dick, passed away, Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 19 days, due to complications from a congenital defect and congestive heart failure.

Greison is survived by his parents, both of Phillipsburg; 2 brothers, Harlen of Phillipsburg and Aiden of Hill City; grandparents, Dan Zahn of Bogue and Nicole Kroeger of Wakeeney and Tricia & Gerald Dick of Phillipsburg; great grandparents, Diana & Stanley Roy of Damar, Rodney & Sharon Wente of Quinter and Marilyn & Roger Grammon of Phillipsburg; aunts & uncles, Christina Wente, Sarah, Bonnie & Joshua Dick all of Phillipsburg, Kechia Voorhies of Hill City, Shelby & Megan Zahn and Alese Kroeger all of Wakeeney and Mitchel Kroeger of Hays.

Edna Lena Capstick

Edna Lena Capstick, formerly of Norton, KS, passed away Mon., Oct. 14, 2013 at the Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler, KS at the age of 94.

She was born July 13, 1919 in Phillips County, KS the daughter of George & Leva (Reno) Ray. Edna owned and operated a beauty shop in Norton for many years.

Her husband, Dale Capstick, preceded her in death in 2009.

Survivors include her son, David, of Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Pam Rush, of Salina, KS; sister, Fayetta Moline of Lincoln, NE; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and 2 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wed., Oct. 23, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in the Norton United Methodist Church, Norton, KS with Pastor Lyn Linde officiating.  Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tues. from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the church and again Wed. morning from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

James Michael “Fritz” Wohler

Victoria, Kansas – James Michael “Fritz” Wohler, age 50, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at the Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City, Kansas.
He was born August 21,1963, in Wichita, Kansas, to Cecil Alvin and Jean Frances (Estes) Wohler.  He married Peggy (Hammersmith) on February 3, 2001, in Dodge City, Kansas.
He was a sales representative for Xcaliber International for the last four years and was with United States  Smokeless Tobacco for fifteen years. He was a1981 graduate of Wichita North High School.   He moved to Victoria in 2002, and was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church Victoria, Kansas. He enjoyed all sports, his kids and family.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Wohler, of the home; four sons, Barnabus Wohler, Salina, KS; Jublain Wohler, Wichita, KS; Michael Wohler and Thaddeus Wohler, both of the home; six daughters, Anastasia Wohler, Salina, KS; Brenda Gaston and husband, Dan, Leawood, KS; Kristi Geihsler and husband Jeremey, Overland Park, KS; Jolene Haas and husband, Ty, Hays, KS; Marie Hoffman, Lawrence, KS; Stephanie Hoffman, Manhattan, KS; his mother, Jean Frances Wohler, Wichita, KS; three bothers, Gil Wohler and wife, Eliana, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Tim Wohler and wife, Therese , Wichita, KS; Tom Wohler, Wichita, KS; one sister, Gail Gidney and husband, Kevin, Park City, KS; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Millie Hammersmith-Windholz, Victoria, KS. two grandchildren, Peyton Geihsler and Elle Geihsler; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Francis J. Goracke

Rural Phillipsburg resident, Francis J. Goracke, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 88.
He was born Nov. 15, 1924 in Phillips County to Clarence & Edna (Bradley) Goracke. He worked at Tamko for 28 years and also farmed. His wife, Tillie, preceded him in death in 2012.
Survivors include his son, Harvey, of Phillipsburg; daughter, Joyce Bretton, of Glade, KS; brother, Dee Goracke, of Hastings, NE; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Alfred J. “Fritz” Dreiling

Victoria, Kansas – Alfred J. “Fritz” Dreiling, age 81, died Monday, October 14, 2013, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.
He was born November 18, 1931, in Victoria, Kansas, to Alphonse J. and Sophie (Sander) Dreiling. He married Myrna (Tapp) on June 3, 1957, in Victoria, Kansas. She died June 15, 2007.
He was a farmer and an independent oil operator. He worked for the IRS for 13 years and then worked for Producers Gas for 8 years. He was a1949 graduate of Victoria High School, a graduate of Fort Hays State College and a Korean veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and V.F.W. Post #1751, both of Victoria, Kansas. He was a past member of the Victoria School Board, St. John’s Rest Home Board of Directors and Ellis County United Way Board
Survivors include two sons, John “Mike” Dreiling, Victoria, KS; Bart Dreiling and wife, Kimberly, Shawnee, KS; four daughters, Carrie Mitchell and husband, William M., Scottsdale, AZ; Theresa Dreiling and husband, Bruce Niemi, Tulsa, OK., Anne Dreiling, Denver, CO., Julie Dzierzawski, and husband Joseph, Pittsburg, PA; four brothers, Marvin O. Grada Jansonius

Logan resident, Grada Jansonius, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 at Logan Manor in Logan, KS at the age of 98.
She was born Jan. 21, 1915 in Phillips County to Christian VanKooten & Hannah (Hogan) VanKooten. Grada was a homemaker and mother.
Her parents, husband, William, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Willard of Prairie View and Cleo of Logan; daughter Evalee Hall of Pine, AZ; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

Sandra J. Clark

Phillipsburg resident, Sandra J. Clark, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 in a vehicle accident near Crawford, NE at the age of 43. Her mother, Patsy Baumgarner, and nephew, Brandon Clark, also died in the accident.
She was born January 11, 1970 in York, NE, the daughter of Norman Clark & Patsy (Corbit) Clark. Sandy worked as a real estate attorney at the Phillips County Abstract office in Phillipsburg.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Main of Lincoln, NE; father, Norman Clark and brother, Gary Clark, both of Billings, MT; her sister, Diann Clark of Lincoln, NE; and companion, Gary Buchner, of Phillipsburg.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating.

Phillipsburg resident, Margaret LoRene Miner, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, KS at the age of 67.
She was born in Phillipsburg on May 24, 1946 to Ivan & Grethel (Covington) Ladd. Her son, Brian, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Jim, of the home; daughter, Lynell Miskimins of Halstead, KS; sisters, Donna Simmonds and Reta Griffin, both of Phillipsburg; daughter-in-law, Angel Miner, of Agra, KS; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wed., Oct. 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Agra Cemetery, Agra, KS.
