Patsy L. (Kuntzsch) Edsall

   Hays, Kansas – Patsy L (Kuntzsch) Edsall, age 72, died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

   She was born May 19, 1940, in Russell, Kansas, to William H. and Margaret E. (Reddig) Kuntzsch.  She married Fridolin N. Braun on September 16, 1956, in Victoria, Kansas.  He died August 13, 1988.  She married Daniel Edsall on May 25, 1996, in Russell, Kansas.  He died November 29, 2011.

   She grew up and attended school in Russell, Kansas.  She lived in Victoria, Luray and after she retired moved to Hays in 1998.  She was homemaker and a cook all of her life and owned Mrs. B’s restaurant in Luray for a few years.   She cooked at the old Linmar’s restaurant and the former Ramada Inn both in Hays.   She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, her family, grandchildren and was a avid video game player.

   Survivors include one son, Fred Braun and wife, La Donna, Bunker Hill, KS; three daughters, Sharon Rupp, Park City, KS; Karen Riedel and husband, Lloyd, Connie Pemberton and husband, Del, both of Hays, KS; four brothers, Bill Kuntzsch and wife, Mary, Kenneth Kuntzsch and wife, Linda, both of Russell, KS; James Kuntzsch and wife, Joyce, Dorrance, KS; Dennis Kuntzsch and wife, Sheryl, Palco, KS;  one sister, Norma Acheson, Russell, KS; one sister-in-law, Paula Kuntzsch, Russell, KS;  ten grandchildren, Danielle Bornholdt (John), B.J. Rupp (Dena), Amanda Sander (Bob), Lindsay Ricker (Rustin), Nathan Riedel, Josh Pemberton, Jennifer Klaus, Nichol Braun, Alexander Braun and Hannah Braun; nine great grandchildren, Laine Werth, Kinley Rupp, Madisyn Rupp, Emersyn Sander, Chasey Wasinger, Gunnison Ricker, Nicholas Kohler, Kenadee Kohler, Samantha Rollins.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one brother John Kuntzsch; two sisters, Peggy Heckens and Nancy Wallace; two infant sisters, Betty and Dixie Kuntzsch.

    Private family services were held at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas, 67601.  Inurnment was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

Obituary- January 15, 2013

Phillipsburg resident, Mildred C. Marple, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg at the age of 101. She was born July 31, 1911 in Phillips County to Forest & Ollie (McQueen) King. Her husband, John, son, Donald, and daughter, Shirley Allen, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Gary, of Forest, VA; her daughter, Rachel Ellis of Phillipsburg; a sister, Dixie Young of Lancaster, NY; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 24 great- great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Gary Davison officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS.

Visitation will be Tues. from 5 – 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Obituary- January 14, 2013

Phillipsburg, Kansas resident, Gary L. Wiltfong, died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the
Logan Manor Nursing Home in Logan, Kansas at the age of 76. He was born Feb. 19,
1936 in Norton County to Leslie & Effie (Higgins) Wiltfong. Gary was an over-the-road
truck driver.

Gary is survived by his wife, Donna of the home in Logan; two brothers, Eugene and
Glen, both of Norton, KS; sister-in-law, Betty Wiltfong also of Norton; step-son, Monte
Griffin of Speed, KS; two step-daughters, Kathy Pabst of Logan and Cindy Burton of
Phillipsburg; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 in the Olliff-Boeve
Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial with
military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard will follow in the Norton
Cemetery, Norton, KS.

Gary will lie in state from Noon until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

Hays, Kansas – Melinda M. (Dinkel) Griebel, age 83, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at her home in Hays, Kansas.
She was born April 19, 1929, in Victoria, Kansas, to Frank M. and Rosa (Hertel) Dinkel. She married Paul Richard Griebel on April 21, 1952, in Victoria, Kansas.

She grew up on a homestead in Victoria, Kansas, with 14 brothers and sisters. She was a 1948 graduate of Victoria High School. They resided in Rooks County until 1955. They moved to a farm outside of Collyer, KS. She was a housewife and loving mother raising 11 children. She was a 2nd Grade catechism teacher for the St. Michaels Catholic Church in Collyer for many years. She was an active member of the Altar Society at St. Michaels Catholic Church. She was a sewing, cooking, and crochet leader for the Collyer Go-Getters 4-H Club. Paul and Melinda managed a dairy farm in Collyer for over 33 years. They retired and moved to Hays, Kansas, in 1988. They have enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. Paul and Melinda celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this past April with family and friends. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays, KS.

Survivors include her husband, Paul R. Hays, Kansas – David G. Dinkel, age 52, died Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the Volga Street D.S.N.W.K. Home in Hays, Kansas.

He was born November 26, 1960, in Hays, Kansas, to Hubert R. and Anna Louise (Leiker) Dinkel.

He attended classes at DSNWK Reed Center  and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, both of Hays, Kansas.  He enjoyed watching baseball, playing card games and going out to eat with his family.

Survivors include his mother, Anna Louise Dinkel, Hays, KS; three sisters, Agnes “Aggie” Wasinger and husband, Gerald “Jerry”, Hays, KS; Janet Goetz and husband, William “Bill”, Wichita, KS;  Joyce Dinkel, Highlands Ranch, CO; two nephews, Michael and Shaun Wasinger; and two nieces, Nicole and Megan Goetz.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert R. Dinkel ( August 20, 2012).

Margaret J.”Peg” Woods

Hays, Kansas – Margaret J.”Peg” Woods, age 88, died Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born November 2, 1924, in Galveston, Texas, to Wil R. and Estelle (Crisman) Johnson.

She married Harlie D. “Spec” Woods Jr. on September 12, 1947, in Galveston, Texas.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hays, Kansas.  She was a past State President and past state board member, serving seven years on the State P.E.O., and a charter member of the Hays P.E.O. Chapter I H.  She had a pilot license and loved to fly, making crafts, and volunteering for Big Brothers-Big Sisters.  She was a graduate of Fort Hays State College with a Masters Degree in English and taught speech for a few years.  She and her husband moved to Hays, Kansas, in 1952,
from Clovis, New Mexico.

Survivors include her husband, Harlie D. “Spec” Woods Jr., of the home; one son, Richard Crisman “Cris” Woods, and wife, Corine, Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Patti (Woods) Revell, Dallas, TX;  five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services are 1:30 P.M. Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2900 Hall, Hays, Kansas.  A private family inurnment will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Wakeeney, Kansas.

Phillipsburg resident, Willis “Bill” Eugene Hodge, passed away Tues., Dec. 18, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 85.  He was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Phillips County to Charlie N. Hodge & Myra Belle (Yowell) Hodge.  Willis worked as a Motor Carrier Inspector for the KS Dept. of Transportation.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of the home in Phillipsburg; three daughters: Belinda Morgan of Ellis; Beverly Weis of Wichita; and Tracy Sanson of Phillipsburg; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Hodge of Salina.

Funeral services will be held Sat., Dec. 22, at 1:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Naponee, NE resident, Helen L. Molzahn, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Deseret Nursing Home in Kensington, KS at the age of 87.

She was born January 25, 1925 in Ft. Morgan, CO the daughter of Martin D. & Florence (Whitney) Baker.

Helen was united in marriage to Ronald W. Molzahn on May 1, 1943 in Phillipsburg, KS.  He survives.

Other survivors include her son, Phillip L. Molzahn of Kensington; daughter, Sonya K. Adams of Topeka; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; a brother, Roger Baker of Woodward, OK; and a sister, Doris Nanfito of Kearney, NE.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Darrell Schmid officiating.  Burial will follow in the Alma Cemetery, Alma, NE.

Mrs. Molzahn will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Hillon David Steeples

Hays, Kansas – Hillon David Steeples, age 86, died Saturday, December 15, 2012, at his home in Hays, Kansas.

He was born August 2, 1926, in Hays, Kansas, Chester F.D. and Olive (Kobler) Steeples. He married Ramona (Dodd) on December 27, 1947, in Hill City, Kansas. She died June 20, 2002. He married Sonja (Scranton) Kobler on December 12, 2003, in Hays, Kansas.

He was a graduate of Kansas State University, a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Pearl Harbor and Japan during WWII. He was a farmer and rancher in the Palco, Kansas, area where the homesteaded family farm dates back to the 1800s. He served on the state level of the Kansas Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 17 years and on the Plainville Rural Hospital Board. He moved to Hays, in the summer of 1985, was a member of the Shriners International and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Hays.

Survivors include his wife, Sonja Steeples, of the home; two sons, Jim Steeples and wife, Connie, Denver, CO; Dan Steeples, Falls Church, VA; one daughter, Judy Alston and husband Joe, Prescott, AZ; one brother, Duane Steeples and wife Carol, Zurich, KS; one sister, Drs. Donna and husband Richard Childs, Fairway, KS; four grandchildren, Dana Steeples, Denver, CO; Kellie Camilli and husband, Lou, Las Cruces, NM; Thomas Alston, Tucson, AZ; David Alston, Portland, OR; one great grandson, Benjamin Camilli; Sonja’s children, Kobie Kobler and wife, Angelique, Lawrence, KS; Tyler Kobler and wife, Brenda, Wichita, KS.

She was supervisor of housekeeping at the Best Western Vagabond  Motel in Hays, Kansas for 33 years.   She was a homemaker, a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Christian Mothers both of Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include one son, Mark Rome and wife,Laura, Hays, KS; two daughters, Patricia Rohr and husband, Tony, Munjor, KS; Marilyn Richmeier and husband, Leon, Hays, Ks; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer Stufflebeam (Darrel), Janelle Cavanaugh (Joe), Andrew Richmeier, Kelly Richmeier, Shawn Richmeier (Erin), Emily Baker (Garret), Scott, Rome, Eric Rome, Allie Rome; six great grandchildren.

Logan resident, Charlotte Nichol-Broyles, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 86.  She was born Aug. 21, 1926 in Hyacinth, KS to Peter & Armina (Schmidt) Bittel.

Survivors include her sons, Gary Nichol of Lindsborg, Daryl Nichol of Lakewood, CO and Ron Nichol of Hill City; daughter, Leona Surface of Ness City; brothers, Clarence Bittel of LaCrosse and Carroll Bittel of Glade; sister, Kathy Scott of Sutherland, NE; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A Rosary service will be held Wed. evening, Dec. 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home in Logan, KS with the family receiving friends from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Dec. 13, at 10:00 a.m. in St. John’s Catholic Church, Logan, with Father George Chalbhagam officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.

John Edwin Fitzpatrick

Victoria, Kansas – John Edwin Fitzpatrick, age 54, died Friday, December 7, 2012, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. He was born March 2, 1958, in Yakima, Washington, to Lawrence and Marlene (Stowe) Fitzpatrick. He married Peggy A. (Kuhn) on March 8, 1980, at Barksdale AFB, LA.

He was raised in Yakima, Washington, and attended High School there. He was a U.S. Air Force

Veteran and joined in 1976. He was stationed at Barksdale AFB from 1977 to 1979. He was stationed at Clark AFB, Philippines in 1979 to 1984, then at Castle AFB from 1984, until the base closed and he retired in 1994. While in the Air Force he was active in playing Softball and loved training and spoiling all the dogs that he and Peggy owned. He was generous to those he felt needed his help and didn’t ask anything in return. He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas, and moved to Victoria in 2009.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy, of the home; two brothers, Michael Fitzpatrick, Albuquerque, NM; and Patrick Fitzpatrick , Yakima, WA; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Francis and Mary Jane (Kisner) Kuhn, Victoria, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas. With military honors by the Victoria V.F.W. Post No. 1751. Betty L. Young

Salina, Kansas – Betty L. Young, age 93, died Friday, December 7, 2012, at the Bethany Home, Lindsborg, Kansas.

She was born October 22, 1919, in Salina, Kansas, to Walter and Mollie (Mecklem) Wallerstedt.

She married Edgar Young on August 20, 1938. He died September 7, 2005. She was raised in Hays, Kansas, a graduate of Hays High School and attended two years at Fort Hays State College. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church, Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include five sons, William Lee Young and wife, Francine, Salida, TX; Robert Karl Young and John Craig Young, both of Salina, KS; Walter Benjamin Young, Colby, KS; James Edgar Young and wife, Karen, Huachuca, AZ; two sisters, Karen Jean Keevert and husband Gary, Enterprise, AL; Kristin Joyce Tardif and husband, Michael, Lewiston, Maine; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Marjorie Hatman-Markle; two grandsons, Jon Mark Keevert and Jack Timothy Gregory; and one daughter-in-law, Anda Young.

Phillipsburg resident, Jonathan Kampfe, passed away Nov. 30, 2012 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 54.  He was born Mardch 23, 1958 in Gothenburg, NE, the son of Roger Lee & Doris (Mueller) Kampfe.  He worked as an Advertising Executive for 30 years in Alaska & Colorado.

Survivors include his mother, Doris Kampfe, of Phillipsburg; three brothers:  Philip of Lindsborg, KS; Mark of Edgerton, KS; and Roger of Phillipsburg; and several nieces & nephews.

Cremation was planned.  A memorial service will be held Sat., Dec. 8, at 10:30 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Lorna Paulus officiating.
