Hays High senior Kaitlyn Schumacher has signed a letter of intent to play softball at the University of Kansas. She signed Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period for high school seniors.
Schumacher was named to the 5A all-state first-team as a sophomore and is a two-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection. She has a career .468 batting average at Hays High and is 21-3 with a 2.03 ERA as a pitcher.
After winning the Western Athletic Conference title the Hays High Indians had seven players named to the 1st team all WAC team and the Indians David Cardinal was named the conference player of the year and Ryan Cornelson was the coach of the year. This is the second season in a row that Cardinal was named the conference player of the year.
Cardinal was also named a 1st team all conference athlete while sophomore quarterback Alex Delton and senior wide receiver Adam Deterding were both first team selections on offense.
Senior defensive linemen Cade Sharpe, senior linebackers Emilo Mitchell and Kyler Meyers and senior defensive back Chance Pitcock were 1st team all conference selections on defense.
Seniors Derek Bixenman and Jake Sedbrook, juniors Preston Weigel and Kenny Rounkles and sophomore Brandon Hardwick were all honorable mention all conference selections.

The Hays High Indians fell to the Bishop Carroll Eagles by the score of 52-27 Friday night in Wichita, and end their season in the first round of the State Playoffs. The Indians only trailed by 3 at half time, but were outscored 28-6 in the second half. Hays High ends their season with a 7-3 record.
