National Baseball Congress Release

ESPNU LogoWICHITA, Kan. – The National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series championship game can be seen in homes across the nation next week. The final game of the tournament, scheduled for Saturday, August 13, at 7 p.m. CST, can be viewed live on ESPNU, and will also be available on ESPN3 via the WatchESPN app.

Visit Wichita and the National Baseball Congress have teamed up to produce and air the championships so that people across the nation can share in the excitement of this 82-year tradition held in Wichita.

“This tournament has sparked lasting memories in families for more than eight decades so to air it on national television and share it with the fans of ESPN just makes sense,” said Susie Santo, president & CEO of Visit Wichita.” Collegiate players in this tournament go on to do great things in baseball and they can say they got their start right here in Wichita. It’s an honor to be home to such an unforgettable experience.”

For the first time in tournament history, a team comprised of former major league players will be taking the field. Roger Clemens, Adam LaRoche, Nate Robertson and more will be competing in the NBC World Series as “The Kansas Stars.” The Stars are scheduled to play at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6; 7 p.m. on Aug. 8; and 7 p.m. on Aug. 10. They, like every other team here, though, have to compete to get to that final game, which will be aired nationwide. We can’t wait to see them take the field this weekend.”

Should The Kansas Stars take the national trophy, they will donate the prize money to charity.

Chiefs add depth at quarterback; sign Foles

Still nothing official from the Chiefs but several media outlets are reporting that they have bolstered their depth at quarterback by signing free agent Nick Foles to a two-year contract with a team option for a second year.

The deal was reported late Thursday night by NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo.

Foles was drafted by Chiefs coach Andy Reid in the third round in 2012 when he was in Philadelphia. In 2013 he threw for 27 touchdowns with only two interceptions. He’s struggled the last several seasons and completed 56% of his passes and had seven touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 11 games with the Rams.

Foles, who was traded from the Eagles to the Rams in 2015, requested a release from the St. Louis Rams this off season to become a free agent.

The Chiefs now have five quarterbacks on their roster in Foles, Alex Smith, Aaron Murray, Tyler Bray and Kevin Hogan.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Jake Odorizzi had his third consecutive scoreless start, Steven Souza Jr. homered for the first time in two months and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Kansas City Royals 12-0 on Wednesday night.
