medicaid-300x225TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – Kansas Medicaid recipients can learn about changes in the health care coverage program at one of 16 meetings being held around the state this month.

The meetings with state officials are scheduled Feb. 18 in Dodge City, Manhattan, Winfield and Topeka; Feb. 19 in Garden City, Salina, Parsons and Kansas City, Kan.; Feb. 20 in Colby, Great Bend, Fort Scott and Olathe; and Feb. 21 in Hays, Wichita, Emporia and Atchison.

17th-Ranked Tigers Upset by Truman in Home Dual

FHSU-WRE-WilkinsonThe 17th-ranked FHSU wrestling team was upset in dual action against Truman on Sunday afternoon at Gross Coliseum in Hays. Truman, which entered the dual winless in MIAA competition, won by a score of 23-14 to move to 6-4 overall and finish 1-4 in the MIAA. Fort Hays State is now 11-7 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA.

The dual started off on the right foot for FHSU as Garrett Jones won by an 8-2 decision at 125 pounds over JJ Dorrell and Rory Wilkinson scored a 14-5 major decision over Tyler Stanley at 133 pounds. FHSU was up 7-0 after two matches.

Fort Hays State opted not to have their nationally ranked wrestlers compete in the dual and it would be costly. Five wrestlers from the normal dual lineup for FHSU were not in action on Sunday.

Alex Maus shifted the momentum quickly in favor of Truman with a pin of  Symon Seaton at 141 pounds in 4:47, closing the dual score to 7-6 in favor of FHSU. Ryan Maus backed that with a 6-3 decision over Noah Killip at 149 pounds to give Truman the lead at 9-7. It’s a lead that Truman would not give back from that point.

Truman continued to roll by winning the next two matches. Colten Schmitz got a late takedown of  Bradley Little in the third period for a 3-1 decision at 157 pounds, then Dustin McClintlock won by an 11-1 major decision over Mark Roundtree at 165 pounds. That extended the Truman lead to 16-7, putting the Tigers in a very difficult hole to climb out of.

Travis Budke pushed the Tigers back to within striking distance in the dual with a 9-1 major decision over Chase Wrisinger at 174 pounds, but Fort Hays State had it’s momentum cut quickly when Nate Seiler scored an 11-9 decision over Zack Grimes at 184 pounds. That left Truman in front by eight with two matches to go.

Not having Tanner Kriss in the lineup at 197 pounds would prove costly as Truman sealed the dual with Helmut Rentschler defeating Alex Feldkamp by a 12-2 major decision to put Truman ahead by 12. A 3-1 sudden victory win in overtime for John Close of FHSU over Ryan Ward would not matter.

Fort Hays State will be in action at the MIAA Tournament in Edmond, Oklahoma on Sunday, February 10. The Tigers finish up the dual schedule on February 14 with their final MIAA dual against Nebraska-Kearney in Hays.

Pittsburg Theater to Hold First Event in 30 Years

pittsburg theatre interiorAn historic Pittsburg theater will hold its first public event in nearly 30 years in April.

The 90-year-old Colonial Fox Theatre will be the site of a live antique auction on April 27.

People who are working to restore the theater say they hope the auction is the first of a wide range of events at the theater.

The Joplin Globe reports the theater was one of several buildings that anchored Pittsburg’s downtown entertainment and nightlife district in the past.

But it closed to the public in 1985 and fell into disrepair.

A group of volunteers began working to restore the theater in 2006, and by 2008 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

KHAZ Country Music News: Tim McGraw Torn Between the 49ers and the Ravens in This Sunday’s Super Bowl

khaz tim mcgraw 20120807Tim McGraw is having trouble choosing sides between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens in this Sunday’s Super Bowl.  On the one hand, his father is from San Francisco, and his uncle still lives in the area.  Tim says, “San Francisco is interesting ’cause they’re young and they’re very talented, and I think it’s gonna be tough to beat ’em.”

As for the Ravens, Tim’s buddy Michael Oher plays on that team.  You’ll recall Tim starred in the film The Blind Side that told the story of Michael’s rise from the projects to the NFL.

We may never know who Tim roots for this Sunday.  He says, “I think I’ll probably wake up that morning and decide which team I’m gonna pull for.”

Tim’s new album, Two Lanes of Freedom, lands in stores Tuesday featuring his latest hit, “One of Those Nights.”
