John J. Sander

Hays, Kansas – John J. Sander, age, 81, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at his home in Hays, Kansas.

He was born October 23, 1930, in Victoria, Kansas, to Peter J. and Catherine (Brungardt) Sander. He married Darlene (Jacobs) on April 16, 1955, in Pfeifer, Kansas.

He was a Construction Superintendent for Hunter Construction/Allied Construction for 45 years. He retired in October of 1992. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Hays V.F.W. Post No. 9076.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Sander, of the home; two sons, Bryan Sander and wife, Dee, Tempe, AZ; John Sander Jr. and wife, Rachel, Olathe, KS; four daughters, Karen Barnes, and husband Aric, Houston, TX; Jo Oliver and husband, Russ, Wichita, KS; Dianne Dye and husband Phil, Shawnee, KS; Eileen Moore and husband, Chris, Dallas, TX; two sisters, Aggie Brungardt, Broomfield, CO; Bernie Arnhold and husband, Gary, Hays, KS; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; one brother, Alvin P. Sander; five sisters, Albina Miller, Eleanor Ubert, Amelia Hoffman, Leona Russell and Elsie Hoffman.

Services are 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 18th and Vine Street Hays, Kansas. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas with military honors by the Hays V.F.W. Post No. 9076. Vigil service is at 7:00 P.M. Friday at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays 1919 East 22nd Street Hays, Kansas 67601. Visitation is from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday and from 10:00 to 1:45 P.M. Saturday all at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays.

Hilaria “Larry” Windholz

Victoria, Kansas – Hilaria “Larry” Windholz, age 101, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at the Prairie Haven Nursing Home at Kensington, Kansas. She was born November 12, 1910, in Emmeram, Kansas, to Joseph M. and Elizabeth (Hoffman) Kuhn. She married Anselm “Scotty” Windholz on November 23, 1936, at Emmeram, Kansas. He died January 22, 2000.

She was a wall paper installer/hanger in the Ellis and Russell County area for over 40 years. She installed the last mural of “St. Fidelis” above the altar at the “Cathedral of The Plains” St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria, Kansas. She retired in the late 1970’s. She attended school in Emmeram, Kansas. She enjoyed cooking, baking bread, making noodles, her family and her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church and Christian Mothers both of Victoria, Kansas.

Survivors include one daughter, Gladys Wickham and husband, William, Phillipsburg, KS; one brother, Francis Kuhn and wife, Mary Jane, Victoria, KS; two sisters, Leona Rohleder and Martina Bieker, both of Hays, KS; one sister-in-law, Laurina Kuhn, Hays, KS; four grandchildren, William Wickham II and wife, Shari, Galen Wickham and wife, Jaque, Shelley Wickham and husband, Ryan Bandt, and Sonja Wickham; six great grandchildren, Garrett Wickham, Gabriel Wickham, Jaci Wickham, Grant Wickham, Lexi Wickham and Rylie Bandt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Gracie Windholz; six brothers, Raymond, John, Leo, Eugene, Joseph F. and Clarence Kuhn; two infant brothers, Conrad Edwin Kuhn and Anton Edwin Kuhn; five sisters, Dena Riedel, Margaret Dinkel, Delphina Copp, Mary Brungardt and Lillian Windholz. Services are 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, Kansas. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Emmeram, Kansas.

A vigil service is at 6:30 P.M. Tuesday followed by St. Fidelis Christian Mothers rosary at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday both at Cline’s Mortuary 412 Main Street Victoria, Kansas 67671. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Wednesday all at Cline’s Mortuary, Victoria, Kansas. Kensington resident, Lawrence D. Reynolds, passed away Friday, May 4 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 85.  He was born June 28, 1926, the son of Alvin & Neva (McCormack) Reynolds.  He was a farmer.

Survivors include 3 sons: Dale of Pueblo, CO, Dean of Kensington & Darel of Agra; 3 daughters: DeAnn Epley of Fullerton, NE, Darla Van Matre of Cedar & Debra Saia of Mulberry, KS; his sister Doris Jackson of Cheyenne, WY & numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dave Hutson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin.

Joseph Richard (Dick) Green

Joseph Richard (Dick) Green, 92, of Hays died Monday, April 30, 2012 at Hays Medical Center.

He was born June 11, 1919 in Midian, Kansas, the third of seven children born to Cyril L. and Ruth (Lumpkins) Green. He graduated from Midian High School in 1937, and from Butler County Junior College in 1939. He graduated from Wichita University, with a Bachelors degree in geology and education, in 1949. During World War II, he worked for Beech Aircraft in the experimental division, developing aircraft for the war effort. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, and was an aviation machinist. He served in Seattle and in the Aleutian Islands.

Dick married Shirley (Seeber) Green on June 4, 1948 in El Dorado, KS. They had seven children. They have resided in Hays since 1952.

Dick was a petroleum geologist and co-owner of Green and Green Consulting Geologists, and of Green Oil Operations.

He belonged to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Kansas Geological Society, V.F.W., and First United Methodist Church of Hays.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; 5 sons: Richard (Pam), California, MO; Larry (Patsy), New Hope, MN; Jerry (Susan), Hays; Robert (Melissa), Bethesda, MD; Craig (Tina), Livingston, TN; one daughter, Krista (Len) Mize, Arvada, CO; 14 grandchildren: Daniel (Kinsey) Green, Hays; Ashley (Steve) Whatley, Dallas; Kacy Green, Houston; Karen (Andrew) Hester, Franklin, TN; Joseph, Mary and Matthew Green, Livingston, TN; Andrea and David Green, New Hope, MN; Susannah and Ian Green, Bethesda, MD; and Alex (Angela), Laurel and John Mize, Arvada, CO; 1 step-granddaughter, Becci Kroeger, California, MO; 3 great-grandchildren: Kasdan Green, Hays; Taylor Whatley, Dallas; and Landon Mize of Arvada, CO.

He was preceded in death by infant daughter Karen, his parents, one brother and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Hays. Military honors by the Hays VFW will follow at the church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Mt. Allen Cemetery, Hays. Thomas L. Toepfer

The Honorable Thomas L. Toepfer, 61, died Monday April 30th at his home, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Tom was born on October 4, 1950 in Hays to Anthony Lyle and Mary Alice (Clark) Toepfer.

He married Mary Glassman on November 24, 2000 at St. Nicholas of Myra Church, Hays.

He was a 1968 graduate of Hays High School, a 1972 graduate of Fort Hays State University with a degree in economics, and a 1975 graduate of Washburn University Law School. While at Washburn he was the director of the Neighborhood Youth Corps program and assistant to the director of federal programs for Topeka Public Schools.

He was a District Judge in the 23rd Judicial District for nearly 12 years, until his retirement in March, 2012. Prior to his election to the bench, he was in private practice for 24 years. He was the City Prosecutor of Hays for 23 years. He was self-employed as a paper boy in his youth.

He was a member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Anthony Hospital, a founding member and Chairman of the Board of Directors at Hays Medical Center, and was recently asked to be Director Emeritus at Hays Med. He served as a member and President of Hays U.S.D 489 Board of Education, President and member of St. Nicholas of Myra Church Parish Council, and member of the Building Committee for the Comeau Catholic Campus Center. He was Editorial Page Editor of the FHSU Leader and member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a member of the Ellis County and Kansas State Bar Associations, a former member of the Cancer Council of Ellis County, Executive Committee of the Kansas District Judges’ Association. He sat on the Commission on Judicial Qualifications of the State of Kansas.

He loved spending time with his family, reading, writing and golfing.

Survivors include his loving wife Mary, sons Russell and wife Kitty, Olathe, KS; Matthew Glassman and wife Haylee, Boston, MA; Anthony Glassman and girlfriend Lexi Copeland, Hays, KS; daughter Andrea Paul and husband Landon, Hays, KS. Four Grandchildren Emma, Luke and Jack Toepfer, all of Olathe and Isabelle Glassman, Boston, MA. Five brothers, Bill and Mary, Shawnee, KS; Phil and Laurie, Hays, KS; Fr. John Toepfer, Colorado Springs, CO; Mark and Sandy, Columbia, IL; and Patrick and Stacy, Hays, KS. His parents Lyle and Mary Alice Toepfer, his in-laws John and Rosie Desmarteau, all of Hays, KS.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Toepfer in 1979.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:30 Thursday all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A parish vigil service will be at 7:00 pm at the funeral home on Wednesday.

Roberta Mae Ennis

Phillipsburg resident, Roberta Mae Ennis, passed away Tues., April 24, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 60.  She was born Dec. 14, 1951 in Phillipsburg, KS to William & Eva (Campbell) Ayres.  Roberta was a Certified Nurse’s Aide.

Survivors include her parents of Phillipsburg; sons, James Harbison of Norton and Darrell Stutsman of Eldorado; daughters, Racheal Harm of Yates Center and Krystal Stutsman of Echo, CT; a brother, Robert Ayres of Branson, MO; four sisters: Willma Stratton of Lexington, MO; Carla Marshall of Smith Center; Doris Keiswetter of Phillipsburg and Paula Hartman of Concordia; and 7 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 1, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Mrs. Ennis will lie in state during regular hours at the funeral home on Friday and Monday and again Tuesday until service time.

Burton “Herb” Van Eaton

Agra resident, Burton “Herb” Van Eaton, passed away Tues., April 24, 2012 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS at the age of 84.  He was born March 29, 1928 to Warren & Nora (Chance) Van Eaton.  Herb was a retired railroad agent.

His wife, Donna, preceded him in death Feb. 22, 2012.

Survivors include his sons, Keith and Steve, and his daughter, Dixie Blackburn, all of Agra; two sisters: Carmen Rice of Kensington, KS and Doris Jo Pruitt of Salina, KS; and

5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Cremation was planned.  A graveside service will be held Monday, Apr. 30, at 2:30 p.m. in the Agra Cemetery in Agra, KS with Pastor Becky Saddler officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the Agra American Legion Post #357.   There will be a lunch for family & friends prior to the service on Monday at 12:30 at the Agra American Legion.

Friends may sign his memory book at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, KS during regular hours Thurs. & Fri. and also on Sunday from noon – 9:00 p.m.

Lila M. Dreiling

Lila M. Dreiling, age 80, former Hays resident died March 28, 2012, in California where she had been a resident for four years.

Lila was born August 10, 1931, in Pfeifer, Kansas to George A. and Anna M. (Dome) Jacobs. She married Othmar W. Dreiling on September 7, 1949, in Pfeifer. He died June 27, 2004. She was a homemaker raising her seven children. She became a CNA and worked at assisting and caring for people in their homes, a job she truly enjoyed. While in Hays she was secretary to the St. Joseph Religious Education Program. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Third Order of St. Francis, Altar Society Christian Mothers, Perpetual Adorers, and the Legion of Mary, all of Hays.

Survivors include three sons, Allen of Colorado, Les of Kansas, and Greg of California; three daughters, Carol Dreiling and Mona Dreiling, both of California and Maria Bonvillian of Texas; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Dreiling, grandson, Joshua Dreiling, two brothers, Virgil and Irvin Jacobs and a sister, Denise Jacobs.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Inurnment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Hays. Wayne “Sug” Grismore

Kirwin resident, Wayne “Sug” Grismore, 52, passed away at his home in Kirwin, KS on Wed., April 18, 2012.  He was born June 7, 1959 in Corydon, IA to Frankie & Joimae (Lee) Grismore.  His father and half brother, Lester, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his mother, Joimae Grismore, of Kirwin; two brothers, Billy Grismore of Phillipsburg, KS and Frankie Grismore of Purdin, MO; three sisters: Joimae Kidd of Auxvasse, MO; Lorraine Werner of Salina, KS; and Barbara Whitney of Norton, KS; 13 nieces & nephews and 10 great-nieces & nephews.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 21, at 1:30 p.m. in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.

Wayne Grismore will lie in state Thurs. from 5-9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. and again Sat. from 9 a.m. – noon at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg.  The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Pauline Gaile Rosebaugh

Pauline G. Rosebaugh, age 90, former Hays resident died Friday, April 13, 2012, in Wichita, Kansas.

Pauline was born August 19, 1921, in Marysville, Kansas, to James and Delpha (Nelson) Down. She married George Rosebaugh July 29, 1939 in Marysville. He died April 24, 1999. After many relocations for George’s work, they settled in Hays, Kansas where they lived as a family for many years. After enjoying her work at Jack and Jill, Pauline took great pleasure in babysitting for several years. Following her mother’s lead, she started devoting her time and energy to the Senior Companion Program for 20 years. Pauline was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her daughter-in-laws, Carolyn Mountford Rosebaugh of Kansas City and Jana Rankin Rosebaugh of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Kelley Rosebaugh of Valley Center, Kansas and Megan Rosebaugh of Wichita, Kansas and a great grandson,

Dakota Morgan of Valley Center, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her sons, William Allen “Bill” and Robert Lee “Bob”, a brother Lee Down.

THERESA M. “TERRY” MEIER

Theresa M. Meier, 84, Hays, died Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Hays Medical Center.

She was born November 9, 1927 in Missouri and was raised by the Joe Weber family in Ellis, Kansas. On October 7, 1946 she married Milton E. Meier in Ellis, Kansas. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and was a homemaker while her children were growing up. Later on she worked as a cook and baker at Lincoln Elementary School for eleven years in Hays. She loved to bake and many family, friends and acquaintances enjoyed her baking skills in making cinnamon rolls and bierocks. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of Antonino and the Our Lady, Help of Christians Catholic Church, Antonino, KS.

Survivors include her husband, of the home, sons, Howard Meier and his wife Jane of Great Bend, KS, Douglas Meier and his wife Virginia of Olympia, Washington, and Steven Meier and his wife Carla of Hays, one daughter Susan Kay May and husband TR of Hays, grandchildren Patrick Meier and wife Dianna, Christy Phlieger and husband Cory, Amy Herrington and husband Brett, Kelly Moeder and husband Paul, Wendy Halvorsen and husband Mike, Craig Meier and wife Mandy, David Meier, Mark Meier, Trevor May and wife Kristie, and Tara May. Fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Paul, Frank, Leo, Carl, Joseph L., Engelbert, Ambrose, John J. and Herman Weber and sisters, Frances Neuberger, Barbara Schafer, Sophie Brown, Anna Yoder, Cecelia Weber, and Mary Beer.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Our Lady, Help of Christians Catholic Church in Antonino. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Fredrick Parker Ruda

Fred Ruda, 67, Hays, died Sunday, April 8, 2012 of injuries from an automobile accident near Dodge City, Kansas.

Fred was born September 25, 1944 in Colby Kansas to Joseph A Ruda and Eilleen (Parker) Ruda. He married Sherrill Sexson on April 4, 1970. He was inducted into the U. S. Army in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War. He was chairman of the Industrial Technology department at Fort Hays State University for 33 years. In 1972 he received his Masters degree from Fort Hays State University. Five years later in 1977 he received his Doctorate from the University of Northern Colorado. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #6984, the Bishop Cunningham Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and an active member of the educational organization ITEA.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years Sherrill, daughter Karrie Millershaski and her husband Bruce of Montezuma, Kansas, son Troy and his wife Lisa, of Thornton, CO., four grandchildren, Hannah Millershaski, Keith Millershaski, Madison Ruda and Ethan Ruda; sisters, Judy Fisher of McDonald, Kansas and her husband A.B., Jean Habrukowich, Somerset, New Jersey and her husband Phil; brothers, Art Ruda, Centerville, Georgia and his wife Sherron, Don Ruda, Ness City, Kansas and his wife Susan, Alan Ruda, Perth, Australia and his wife Marilyn. He is preceded in death by his mother Eilleen Ruda, father Joseph Ruda, and a sister Letitia “ Tish” Anderson and her husband John.

Eleanor Sexson

Eleanor Sexson, age 90, of Hays died Sunday, April 8, 2012, of injuries from an automobile accident near Dodge City, Kansas.

Eleanor was born December 1, 1921, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, to John Peter and Elizabeth (Arnold) Younger. She married Keith E. Sexson on June 7, 1943, in Fort Ord, California. He died April 8, 2001. She was a caregiver and homemaker. She served her country with the U. S. Navy. Eleanor was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Perpetual Adorers, and the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her sons, Keith, Jr. “Skip” and his wife, Elaine of Pratt, KS., Charles “Chuck” and his wife, Jennifer of Topeka, KS., and Mark and his wife, Kathy of Garden City, KS., daughters, Sherrill Ruda of Hays and Caroleana Greiser of Plano, Texas; brother, Bernard Younger of Commerce City, Colorado; sister, Virginia Donnell of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, August, Fred, and Richard Younger; sisters, Mary Harrison, Pauline Miles, Agnes Firkus, Catherine Sexson, Nellie Meier, Minnie Waldschmidt, Josey Gerstner, and Rose Younger.

Armand D. Gingles

Logan resident, Armand D. Gingles, passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover, Kansas at the age of 87. He was born Dec. 29, 1924 in Speed, KS to Frank & Hazel (Klink) Gingles. His son, Leland, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva, of the home; three daughters: Rhonda Schurz and Vonda Gottschalk, both of Logan, KS and Tamara Johnson of Hutchinson, KS; one sister, Arloa Clarke of Corydon, IA; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. John’s Catholic Church in Logan, KS. Interment will follow in the Belmont Cemetery, Phillips County, with military honors by Fort Riley.

Mr. Gingles will lie in-state Wednesday from 5 – 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. –
9 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home in Logan, with the family receiving friends Thursday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to Logan E.M.S. or the Logan Volunteer Fire Department.

LuVern Francis Lang

Hays, Kansas – LuVern Francis Lang, age 82, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Ellis Good Samaritan Center, Ellis, Kansas.
He was born October 18, 1929, on the family farm West of Ellis, Kansas, to Cacheus and Regina (Graf) Lang.

He worked in the oil fields on drilling rigs most all of his life and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, Kansas.
Survivors include three sons, LuVern Lang Jr. and wife, Pam, Tribune, KS; Norman Lang and wife, Rose Marie, LaCrosse, KS; Mark Lang and wife, Lori, Hays, KS; one daughter, Mary Engel and husband, Cliff, Hays, KS; one brother, Kenneth Lang, Evans, CO; 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Patrick Lang.

Services are 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th & Vine, Hays, Kansas. A Private family internment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas. A vigil service will be at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays 1919 East 22nd Street Hays, Kansas 67601. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Wednesday at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays and from 9:30 to 10:00 Thursday at the church. Memorial to the Lang family and to be decided at a later date.

Frances L. ” Frankie” Schreiber

Hays, Kansas – Frances L. “Frankie” Schreiber, age 79, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the Hays Good Samaritan Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born May 11, 1932, at Joplin, Missouri, to Olvy L. and Hazel E. (Tennant) Musick.

She married Melvin J. “Mel” Schreiber on September 27, 1952, at Halstead, Kansas.

She was the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of U.S.D. #385, in Andover, Kansas, for 13 years and retired in 2004. She worked at the A B C Child Care Center, in Andover, Kansas, for six years and worked 19 years at J C Penney. She was a member of the Church of the Magdalen, Wichita, Kansas.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin J. “Mel” Schreiber, of the home; one son, Dale E. Schreiber and wife, Beth, Gray, TN; two daughters, Pam Joy and husband, Fred, Hays, KS; Terrie Vandine Wellington, KS; one brother, Thomas L. Musick and wife, Carol, Andover, KS; one sister, Marguerette Edmundson, Colby, KS; one brother-in-law, Jerry Foiles, Ocala, FL; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Joshua) Callahan, Jeffrey Schreiber, Chrisy (Tony) Crough, Scott Schreiber, Jessica Vandine, Brett Schreiber, Katie Joy and Courtney Vandine. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Sara Foiles.

Graveside services and inurnment will be at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Burrton Cemetery, Burrton, Ks. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 14, 2012, at the Church of the Magdalen 12626 E. 21st Wichita, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday at the Heritage Funeral Home, Andover, Kansas, with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. Memorial to Andover Advantage Foundation, 1432 N. Andover Road Andover, Kansas, 67002.

Daniel E. Pfeifer

Daniel E. Pfeifer

Daniel E. Pfeifer, age 73 of Hays, passed away Monday, March 26, 2012, at Hays Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1938, in Hays to Eugene and Irene (Dinges) Pfeifer. He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 1955, and he received an Electrical Engineering Degree from Kansas State University. He married Emily Werth August 29, 1959, in Schoenchen.

He was an Electrical Engineer for Honeywell in Minneapolis, MN, a farmer/rancher, and later, a systems manager for the IT department at Fort Hays State University. He was very active in his church: helping with religious education in Fridley, MN; RCIA, CCD and parish council at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellis; and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Hays.

He is survived by his wife Emily of Hays; three sons, Kevan (Melanie) Pfeifer of Shepherd, MT, Robin Pfeifer of Miles City, MT., and Randall (Deborah) Pfeifer of Hays; two daughters, Stephanie (Leslie) Pedersen of Aurora, CO, and Kimberly (Brian) Weber of Manhattan, KS; and a sister, Kay (Dennis) Stegman of Elkhorn, NE. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren: Micke’l (Ashley), Janek (Alison) Pfeifer, Breanna (Jesse) Seltmann, Grayson and Christian Pfeifer, McKenna, Mesa and Tristan Pfeifer, Rachel and Jacob Pedersen, Ember, Joseph and Trevor Pfeifer, and Hayden, Keith and Audra Weber, as well as seven great grandchildren: Mason, Elizabeth and Faith Pfeifer, Hudson Pfeifer, Rome, Kyla and Cash Seltmann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Chance Pfeifer, and a brother, William Pfeifer.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 30th at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Friday 9:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. all at Brock’s North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

There will be a rosary service at 6:30 P.M. followed by a parish vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
