BOYS: Hoisington 53, TMP-Marian 48
An electric start was not enough for the Thomas More Prep – Marian boys’ basketball team Tuesday night as they dropped a 53-48 ballgame to Hoisington at Al Billinger Fieldhouse.
The Monarchs spurted out to 12-2 lead to begin the game and took a 28-22 lead into halftime.
The Cardinals (14-4) went on a 12-2 run of their own though to start the second half and led by as many as nine in the fourth quarter.
TMP (10-7) got the score within three at 51-48 after senior Taylor Pfeifer converted a three-point play. Pfeifer finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
After forcing a Hoisington turnover, TMP had a chance to tie it with a Jacob Fouts’ 3-pointer with less than 20 seconds to go but Fouts’ shot was off the mark and the Cardinals hit two free throws to seal the victory. Fouts scored a team-high 15 points.
Hoisington’s Derrick Kaiser went 9-for-10 from the free throw line and ended with 26 points. The Cardinal 6’8” junior, Cody Stetler, added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
